Gotta ask you guys something. When I was a kid, I collected comic books. I used to buy 2 copies of everything I liked. One got read, one went in plastic. I’ve got XMen 101, New Mutants 1 - god only knows what, and tons of other indie comics like Groo, Cerebus, etc. They’ve been sitting in a closet for years.
I also have 2 boys, ages 7 and 9. So, I’m thinking I pull out the most valuable ones and let my boys have the rest…? Hopefully, they’ll get as much joy out of them as I did. Maybe use it as an opportunity to teach them to take care of something valuable?[/quote]
Are the comics even worth anything? The 90s were not kind to comic resell values. Age and rarity make comics valuable not the number on the cover.
Fuck it. Pull’em out and read’em. You kids are old enough that they probably won’t decide to recolor the comic book with crayons.
Okay fuck it. I was okay with her being in snow white, but in Akira? Are you fucking kidding me? And ugg, we are we making an akira movie, don’t ruin my childhood!
This is getting out of hand, it’s like Avatar the last air bender all over again, except even worse.

I’m 40. Most of the comics are from late 60s, 70s, and early 80s. I actually like Derek’s idea very much. I’ll probably pull the most valuable, sell those, and give the rest to the kids in small batches. Use them as rewards for doing extra chores, etc.

And here i thought things couldn’t get any worse about Akira when it was first speculated that Robert Pattinson would be Kaneda.

They will rape your valuable treasure, i wouldn’t let my kids near my collection at that age at least.

Akira has been trying to find it’s feet for a couple years now. Nerds have been bitching about it noisily every time a rumor breaks. I should go check Topless Robot for more bitching and groaning.
It’s not nearly as badly cast as The Last Airbender. Airbender just starred a bunch of pretty kids, and M. Nightshammalammamommaman is no where near this project.
The article you linked was written by a retard. She opens by claiming the “blandest cast ever”, but two of he stars are Gary Oldman, and Helena Bonham Carter. TRON: Legacy fucking rocked, and Garrett Hedlund carried the starring role. I wouldn’t complain is Amanda Seyfried, Jamie Chung, or Emmy Rossum had been cast instead.
Maybe they are trying to bridge the gap between the US and Japan by casting the smallest tits in Hollywood?

I’d love a well done Akira movie for sure, even a bad one, as long as they can get some decent casting and an okay script.
2 agreed
3 I enjoyed legacy, I wont say it rocked, but it was very enjoyable.
4 yet anime has always portrayed chicks with huge boobs!
5- the score to akira just awesome, hope this film has some great music with it as well.

Agreed. I saw Tron Legacy in 3D IMAX and it gave Avatar a run for its money (no wonder - the director was an architect. He couldn’t possibly screw the 3D)…
If anyone doubts Hedlund’s acting ability just watch Death Sentence (he was my pick to play Cap America before Chris Evans was cast):
Going back to the start of this thread, this movie is very Punisher-esque.
It’s probably why I thought of the home movie flashbacks.
Tron Legacy set up a sequel far better than The Matrix Reloaded. I guess people were too busy moaning to notice that Quorra can now bear Flynn jr’s child.

I don’t follow the geek movies very much. I pretty much just read the articles you guys link too. I find it keeps my nerd rage down, and am more likely to enjoy the final product. The Last Airbender is a pretty shitty movie. I tried watching it, but it’s just way too shitty to sit thru. I could get all upset about that, but what for? Besides I’ve got the complete series on DVD. I view the live action Akira much the same. If nothing else I’ve got the original on DVD.
My #4 comment was tongue-in-cheek. I know the Japanese are obsessed with large breast. God bless them. I think hiring Kristen Stewart to appease the Japanese is a lot like when I visit my folks in Austin, and they offer to take me out to the newest Cajun restaurant.
You’re right about the music in the original. Who ever they hire to compose the score has a lot of work to do and some very high expectations to meet.
I never read the Appleseed manga and it’s been years since I saw the anime. As of right now I’m much more familiar with the 2004 Appleseed and the 2007 sequel Ex Machina

I don’t remember Garrett Hedlund stinking up the scenes every time he got in front of the camera in Four Brothers (possibly the last good Mark Walberg movie), Troy, or Friday Night Lights. I think he’s a good choice.
I saw Deathwish 6, err I mean Death Sentence. No complaints about the acting, but damn that movie seemed to drag on and on. It got too philosophical for it’s own good, and a little heavy handed with the moral lesson. It wasn’t a bad film, but not one I intend on ever rewatching.
What were the folks bitching about? I am looking forward to the next Tron film. Hopefully I will get to see it in theaters instead of getting stuck working in bum fuck North Dakota.

I know number 4 was!
Haven’t seen the 2004 appleseed. I should do that at some point. I haven’t watched any good anime in a while. Need a anime day.

Tron was the only movie that TOTALLY ROCKED using that shitty technology that i hope that will fade away soon.

No I just meant that there’s some movies you probably shouldn’t try to make. GANTZ would be one of them.
There is a GANTZ movie out though FYI… just not an american version.
