Yeah, I heard it was just okay. Is it worth seeing in the theater, or is it something that you can wait for video without missing much? I won’t be able to see it until next weekend either way.

How was the trailer? Any differences from the trailer posted around earlier?

Ok, I just did a little research and I believe the issue stems from a mismatched frame rate vs the TV refresh rate; since blu-ray is 24 fps, the refresh rate in Hz of the TV needs to be a multiple of this number (72/96/120). That may have been the issue…

LUEshi,

What happened?

I don’t like blu-ray at all. There is something wrong with the framerate of blu-ray films, as if the framerate fluctuates from standard cinema frame rates (24 fps, I believe) to something a little bit higher, then drops back down. This makes the film seem unnatural for very brief moments.

I’m not sure if anyone knows what I’m talking about, but I have noticed it with Spiderman as well. It’s weird. I dig the clarity of picture but the frame rate is weird and sometimes its a little too contrasty.
I haven’t noticed this with Blu-Ray, however I did notice something similar with my girlfriends dads Samsung panel - he’s got a 32" and I can’t put my finger on why but the picture looks so unnatural on everything you watch. It makes movies look like they are recorded on a home camera - they lack that “movie feel”. Kind of like when you watch a cheap soapie.

Yep. That’s why 120Hz is the standard refresh rate. When the fps isn’t an integer of the refresh rate, you have to use telecine pulldown which causes artifacts and the juddering you are referring to.

Also, upgrading the firmware helped my picture quality.

IMO,you can wait for DVD. The only reason we went to see it is because my wife’s best friend is the manager and we don’t pay for shit but concession(other than popcorn). And of course,I pretty much just wanted to see the Wolverine trailer…lol.

Now as for the trailer, the first one that leaked doesn’t even scratch the surface of how sick this movie is going to be.

--------------A FEW SPOILERS--------------

There’s a short clip of when he receives adamantium bond…and “rises” out of the tank…and squares off against David North(Maverick aka Agent Zero). The sheer intensity of Hugh Jackman’s face and posture in that scene gave me goosebumps…lol.

The guy playing Gambit(from Friday Night Lights TV show) caught some flack from “hardcore” fans for his generic comments about Gambit being “like any other mutant.” Well…I must say that I think he did him justice. He uses his “tools of the trade” wisely in the trailer.

There are brief clips of Deadpool(Ryan Reynolds),Silver Fox,The Blob…John Wraith(Will.i.am),Emma Frost, etc. Of course they only show Sabertooth in brief clips. One in particular,as he’s running on “all fours” and clashes with Wolverine.

Sabertooth says," Do you know how to kill me?" Wolverine replies,“I’m going cut your god damn head off. We’ll see if that works.” Sabertooth just grins…and laughs.

This movie is going to be more gritty and intense than any X-Men movie…rightfully so.

That was the EXACT statement I made to a friend last night and he agreed, that the film seemed as if it was recorded on a home camera. I am willing to bit this is also due to the refresh rate of the display not being set to an integer of the 24 fps of the blu-ray player…

Good eyes.

Ok…to all that own PS3’s…have you had issue downloading the latest 2.53 system update?? I haven’t been able to download it without error. And after searching around,I’ve found that numerous people are having the same issue.

And a large percentage of those who have successfully downloaded it,are having problems that were nonexistent before they updated to 2.53. Their consoles are freezing…not playing games/movies…etc. Is this a just coincidence…and these people are not taking care of their consoles??

Sony is telling them it is a problem with their system hardware and to ship their consoles in for repairs. This 2.53 update is causing these problems…and simply telling people to shell out $150 to repair their “faulty hardware” is straight up boo-boo.

Anyone having any of the above issues?? Speak up,dammit.

When was the update released? I last updated my PS3 about a week or two ago and I haven’t had any issues since then.

December 2. Everytime I start downloading the update it gives me an error about connection to server cannot be established. I tried installing update from USB storage device and it says the data is corrupted. I’ve never had problems downloading updates before. But,I am trying to troubleshoot on my end to see if I might actually have something wrong with my console.

I’m pretty sure I have that update, but I’ll check again once I’m off work. (I hate being on call!!!)

Oh, I definitely saw that post. Since it sounds like The Day The Earth Stood Still is a rental, I’ll have to see if I can find an online version of the trailer.

I haven’t had any problems with the update, other than the flash player sucking, but that isn’t anything new. Resistance 2 has frozen on me a couple times but only when I pause it during a cutscene. I quit doing that, and it stopped freezing.

They need to limit these updates to 1 or 2 per year because they’re annoying. Even more annoying when there aren’t any cool features added.

Everything’s fine, but the car’s front wheel is fucked. It’ll be a couple weeks of catching rides back and forth to work before I can get it fixed. But nobody was hurt, so it’s all good.

The bitch of it is, I could have gone to the movie if I had just paid for the tow right away, but I wanted to save some money. So I spent my evening in a freezing cold parking lot tearing off my bumper, only to pay for a tow truck ANYWAY.

My friend damn near ripped my head off, too. “WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TODAY?”

What really hurts: she was saving a bowl for me. Oh well.

Also, I damn near came when I saw that T4 trailer. Looks frocking awesome.

Glad you are okay.

People get into such accidents and get severely hurt. You weren’t and were able to walk away, so life goes on.

Few weeks’ time is nothing, man. Keep watching that T4 trailer in the meantime.

Ok…I backed up my data…and did a full system restore. This time, the update downloaded with no problem. Now lets see if I have any problems after the install.

Alright, help me out. I’m a graphic novel geek. Gimme some good titles. I’ve read most of the usual suspects – Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, V for Vendetta, etc. – and I’m just for some pointers on anything I may be missing.

I’m in the middle of reading Y: The Last Man, and I just started getting the Sandman, but haven’t gotten to reading them.

Any suggestions?
Fables by Bill Wallingham. All the classic fable characters, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Big Bad Wolf, have been ousted from their lands and fled to our world, New York specifically. Now they have to cope with living in our world, while planning to take back their homelands. 10 TPBs are published so far. One special issue hard back called 1001 Nights of Snowfall. This is very smartly written book. Highly recommended.

100 Bullets by Brian Azarello. Crime noir meets pulp fiction at its best. Story telling is deep and the violence is brutal. The art is outstanding. The dialogue really flows and the way Azarello inserts his puns gives really dark situations twisted humerous glint.

Those are my two favorite ongoing titles right now.

If you are loving Y: The Last Man then check out Vaughn’s other title Ex Machina. The world’s only superhero is now the Mayor of New York City. The story arcs progress in a crime/mystery fashion with each story revealing fragments of a greater danger lurking near by.

Hellboy by Mike Mignola. If you liked the movies then you will love the comics. The stories are layed out better and the artwork…well it really looks like art.
