You know, I am disappointed in the Need for Speed franchise. It has turned into some silly Fast and the Furious spinoff.

I remember playing the original NFS on the PC: a few exotics and a few regular sports cars. That’s what I like, none of this 5000 points if you can ride the current produced by your opponents BS.

I find NSF pretty hit and miss. The level variety used to be good, now its just a city with different tracks although the latest one seems to bring a little of this back. Obviously not everyone is going to like it, but you can’t argue with its success.

So I went out and got Uncharted Friday and I stayed up all night last night(after the Panthers riped my heart out) playing it. I beat it earlyer to day and I have to say that it is one of the best games I have ever played! If you havent played this game and own a PS3 go out as soon as you can and buy it, rent it or steal it I dont care. You owe it to your self to play this game.

And I was just messing around on the PS3 a few min ago and aperantly It downloaded the trailer of Uncharted 2.

If this game can pick up steam I think it could be PS3s Flagship franchise.

Agreed. Probably one of the more memorable central characters so far this gen and amazing visuals to boot. Oh, and it’s fun to play.

Also, Killzone 2 is coming out soon. I know it’s been in development for 4+ years, but holy shit that game looks freakishly close to the CG trailer they showed first.

That’s shitty cam footage, btw.

Ya, I cant wait for this one either. I have it on pre-order and hopefully can get my hands on the Demo in the next week or two. I know once I get it Ill have to kick my friends out just to get some sleep.

Ever sense the Game Cube came out I have like Nintendo less and less and what I just read is the “straw that broke the camels back.”

The days of getting stuck in games could be gone altogether, if a patent filed recently by Nintendo comes to fruition.

Nintendo’s idea, made public in a patent application this week, hinges on making demonstration videos available to players while they’re playing the game, either as a thumbnail view or a full-screen animation. Players could interrupt the demonstration at any point, taking control back to continue playing without assistance. Think of it as a tutorial guide that lasts throughout the entire game.

Im sorry but Nintendo needs to go away and die. They are trying to destroy the very thing that made them great. Do I get pissed some times when I get stuck and run around for 2 hrs trying to figure out what to? You bet’cha! But this is what makes it all the more sweet when I walk away for an hr. or a day, come back and it takes me 2min to see what I was doing wrong.

Nintendo, please. Stop, while you still have some dignity left.

Anyone watching the Batman: Black and White motion comics on XBL? Highly recommended. 80 points for 7-11 minutes of good, pulpy vignettes.

Especially like the Alex Ross “Case Study” of the Joker.

Cool. I was wondering whether that was worth picking up. I thought it was a Tomb Raider knock off.

After selling Wiis to the casual gamer crowd, they’ve decided to go after the non-gamer with games that play themselves while you watch.

Hopefully, that idea dies before being implemented in an actual shipping game. If I’m stuck in a game, I can go on gamefaqs.com once I lose patience. If they want to innovate in a useful way, why don’t they “invent” a system that lets you save anytime, anywhere in every game?

Nintendo needs to give the gimmicks a rest and go back to making cool innovative games. Hell, I’d be happy with a new F-Zero.

There is no way Nintendo Japan came up with that idea. That has to be from their USA offices.

Miyamoto would not stand for such crap.

That was one of the most awful and rhythmically-challenged things I’ve ever seen in my life. Does that game come with a beating?

Yeah, it was difficult for me to watch too.

Nintendo’s big reveals at the past 2 E3 conferences have been Wii Fit and Wii Music / Wii Sports Resort. Do you see a trend here? This is the new Nintendo, like it or not. Up next for E3 '09 - Wii Landscaper. All your daisies are belong to me!

Anyways … new God of War III teaser. Footage is meh, but it’s still a ways off.

I was thinking Wii Nap.

Nice! That reference always makes me laugh.

Are people who want to be literally hand held through an entire game even the ones buying them to begin with?

Some of these titles can provide upwards of ten hours of gaming and that’s if you played all of the way through with skill nonstop.

Watching all of the in-game movie sequences is nothing like figuring that stuff out and beating it on your own.

It looks soooooo much fun though (rolls eyes):

At least this guy can play:

How is that game selling, anyways? Every critic on the planet bashed it but it wouldn’t surprise me if it sold millions already.

Whoever made this video pretty much nailed it regarding Wii Fit :

Not very well from what I can see.

That Wii Fit parody was pretty funny!

Nintendo seem to think that catering to the hardcore gamers isn’t where the money’s at.

If you look at the wildly successful Wii and DS, it seems the market bears them out. Hardcore gamers, as a percentage of the overall population, are a tiny fraction. If they can get non traditional gamers to buy their stuff, they’ll roll in money.

Casual gamers seem to prefer games that are simple to pick and that won’t frustrate them in any way. They seem to want something to pass the time, not something to challenge them.

I’m just hoping that other game companies don’t follow in their footsteps.

Hopefully people who make games will continue making challenging ones. Maybe they can add a “casual” level below “easy” for people who just want to go through the game effortlessly. For “sandbox” games like GTA, maybe a “I just want to explore” option that turns off the gangs and violence could do the trick.

Add to that the fact that very few game stories are even close to a so-so movie, and if you’re just going to watch the game without actually playing it, you’re probably better off getting an actual movie.

My question is this… If all the money in the video game industry is made on the software license i.e. the games it self, isn’t Nintendo actually losing money? It is widely known that the Wii is usually put in the corner to gather dust after a couple weeks of use. Shit, I sold mine after a month and a half. Nintendo gets people the general population to buy their system but a casual gamer is going to get bored very quickly and move on to something else.

So how are they making money? There is a chart that shows how poorly Call of Duty 5 is selling on the Wii, in comparison to the PS3 and 360. The Wii sold about 450k when the PS3 and 360 cracked the million mark in almost two to three weeks. Nintendo only has a handful of franchises that are million sellers. They have to be taking a beating on the cost of selling their hardware at such a low price. That’s why they haven’t thought about a price cut since they have come out. I am not impressed by all their hardware sales figures their software figures pales in comparison. Simply put the Wii is a big hype machine, a huge paper weight that doesnt deliver. /rant
