as these things get more and more complex, they become even more fragile.

anybody here playing their n64 while their X360 is off getting refurbished knows EXACTLY what i’m talking about.

No, that seems to just be Microsoft. The ONLY time I’ve heard of someone’s PS3 needing to be sent back to the manufacturer is on this site, nowhere else and that was just one guy.

I’ve had mine for about two years now and have had no problems with it.

I’ve said it before, but I still don’t understand the brand loyalty when they make a product that needs massive recalls nationwide before they get the bugs out just so they can meet a release date first.

I know what you mean. From the people I’ve spoken to, the price was a big deciding factor between the PS3 and 360.

I think Microsoft is on a road of recovery, fixing their previous mistakes bit by bit. Hopefully that was the last of the major problems. Maybe this is why they are taking their time with bringing out a new mobile device / the software for one.

Saying that, I’ve had my 360 for 2 years and not one problem yet, and it gets a lot of play.

it’s all technology in general, not just xbox.

these things happen.

Just to clarify, when talking about the console’s life cycle, I’m talking about the time from the console’s release to the release date of its successor. I’m not talking about individual consoles’ lifespan with regards to breaking down.

Since the original Xbox, I’ve just been a fan of their library more than that of Sony’s. Even though my launch 360 did red ring on me, it was less than two weeks before I had it back at no cost to me. It’s shitty that the majority of early 360s were faulty, but it ultimately had little to no effect on me.

Link is not working…but I did search for another article on same topic…AND I didn’t see anything about failure rates with PS3…just loss of profit by Sony in preparation for it’s release.

Yes,it is all technology…BUT the fact still remains that PS3 has been highly more reliable than XBox.

Oh, no doubt about that. They took their time to release a more polished product, Bluray + built in wireless are 2 important features.

You gotta love these large sweeping statements.

The reason the xbox 360 breaks so often is due to poor manufacturing and poor design. I’ve ‘fixed’ about 4 red ringed xbox 360’s.

What was the problem with them? all warped motherboards due to excess heat due to a stupid fucking heatsink/ motherboard mount.

That being said, arguably the most fragile part of any current system is the hard drive, and once solid state drives become readily available, consoles should be much more reliable and stable

Also you throw in new technologies such as better dual slot heat sinks for modern graphics cards, and processors that runner faster and cooler than their older counterparts and you get a more reliable AND sturdy system.

well then i don’t know what the fucking problem is. I water them and give them plenty of sunlight just like they told me to and the shit still breaks.

fuck you guys.

Any suggestions on a good place to start… I just got a red ringed xbox gifted to me by a co-worker who bought a new one… I figure if I can fix it cool, if not, itll be fun to take apart…

i want this now, being a huge transformers fan I’ve been bitterly dissapointed with the release of subpar games for the transformers franchise. Even though it looks like a gears of war repackage, I’m down with that.

M$ has definitely had the better library until recently. Sony has some cool games but M$ has had better games overall.

I’m picking up a PS3 for a friend to use as Blue-ray player and stream Netflix to his new 65-inch 1080p plasma.

http://www.x-clamp-fix.com/catalog/product_info.php?info=p5_X-Clamp-Fix-DIY-Kit.html

This explains the problem and offers an overpriced kit to fix it. you can find much cheaper ones on ebay.

Hell you could probably even find the parts at home depot if you wanted, that’s what i did. All you really need is an alan wrench and a micro screwdriver kit.

Did the lights on the front start to turn brown/wilt? That can be a sign of needing to change the soil the 360 sits on.

Anyone else see this? New 360 slim!

Guys, I am going to start a new thread because this one is about to end. I figure with one new movie on the horizon, this would make a good cut to this thread.

I am just letting everyone know because the discussions this time around got deeper into Geekdom.

Anyone have seen the mortal kombat new trailer? is that for real? i’m excited!! COME OVER HERE!!
