I picked it up, but have yet to open it up… I had a momentary lapse in sanity and went back to playing WoW… I forgot how addictive this game is…

as a side note, I really enjoyed the plot for ODST (after I realized I am not the arbiter / master chief)… but damn was it short… for 60 bucks I feel a little bummed about the length…

Hey, didn’t you have that issue with the wireless router(s)?

If anyone’s interested in the Masterpiece line of Transformers collectibles, there’s a black version of Optimus coming out early next year:

The Masterpiece line is composed of high quality, extremely detailed transformers that have complicated transformations to help it look as closely as possible to its generation 1 appearance. They are made of part metal and part plastic, and stand roughly 12 inches tall.

Damn.

If they could pull that off, that would be amazing.

Could it replace SSD’s though?

The speeds would have to be greatly increased to compete.

Dammit. I wish folks would stop wasting time on disc technology. They’re taking time, money, and talent away from solid state memory development. Discs should just be used for physical data backup, beyond that it should be solid state devices or internet based streaming data. I am so tired of all spinny, twirly things, I want full solid state computing. And once we get that taken care of we start dumping lots more money into liquid crystal memory devices.

Hey guys, I’m looking to pick up a 360 and I need some advice. Basically, I just want to play Xbox Live with Halo 3. There are like 3 different 360s though and I don’t know which one to get.

I could get an Elite for around $200. on Ebay. But then I need to go buy Halo 3 separately. And then there are some Elites on Craigslist that comes with a Halo 3 and some other games for around the same price. But those won’t be new where the ones on Ebay are; they’re sold by wholesalers. Do I even need an Elite? How much memory do I need? Is storage space and color the only difference between the different Xbox 360 types?

Also, how would I go about hooking up to the internet? I have an internet cable going to my PC in my room, but it won’t reach to the TV. Do they sell extensions or splits? Because I want to be able to go online while being on Xbox Live. We have wireless internet, too. Is there a way to go Live through wireless?

What do you suggest I do?
Thank you,

I downloaded the demo off the PS3 store and liked it so far. The online co-op is a nice add and vs is pretty fun. I liked the first one a lot due to how the visuals looked. Hopefully this one doesn’t disappoint on that end.

What does everyone think of Borderlands so far? I like the different style of graphics.

I agree.

SSD is the way forward, optical drives & current hard drives are the last mechanical part left in a computer - and they’re weak links that should be removed.

Give it another few years (hell, it could be a decade), but I think that CDs will eventually become completely extinct; most content will be downloaded and memory sticks will be cheap enough to mass produce to sell games/music/movies on. This is if they aren’t already cheap enough to put in place.

If you want a 360, I think the Elite is the most future proof - considering that you can now buy your games though XBLive and download the full things to the hard drive. The biggest difference is storage space between the elite and the rest, as far as I remember.

As for hooking up to the net, you could do so by a ethernet cable directly into the hub, or you could spend another $30 or so and pick up the wireless dongle, which plugs into the back of the console and gives you wireless access. One feature M$ thought would be a good idea to leave out of the original console.

Thanks for the reply.

How much are games over Xbox Live? Because most are $15. on Craigslist. And it plays DVDs without a seperate attachment, right? Will it play burned DVDs?

Another option:
My friend has a spare Xbox console, but no hard drive. Would it make sense to pick up just a hard drive and buy his Xbox cheap? I think his is a Pro, the discontinued one. Can I pick up any hard drive and it will work?

And realistically, how much memory am I going to need? They range from 20gb to like 120, I think.

RSGZ pretty well answered it all. But if you were curious there are roughly 4 variations of the xbox on sale. Pro or Elite would be your best buys.

Xbox Versions:
Arcade - No Hard Drive
Pro - 60gig Hard Drive
Elite - 120gig Hard Drive
SuperElite - 250gig Hard Drive

I never upgraded to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD because I felt it was a rehash of old technology. Netflix, youtube, hulu and a dozen others have proven you don’t need a disc to enjoy a movie, and I would like to see those ideas pushed further. Microsoft needs to embrace a new media format on its next game console to exceed Sony’s use of Blu-ray. I would prefer SSD combined with the Live’s current “Game on Demand” format, and much much larger hard drives.

I think it depends on how old the game is, I haven’t explored the content all that much, yet.

It will play DVDs out of the drive, and you can play AVI’s from an external drive or memory stick via the USB’s on the front. It will play copies, but not games. You can patch it to play copied games, but that’s another story.

You can buy your friends one, but depending on how old it will be, there is a chance of it getting the RROD - and if it’s too old it won’t be covered by the warranty offered by M$.

You can buy a hardrive for it which, as far as I remember, costs about the same as a basic console. How big all depends on what you want to do with it. You can rip games to the drive for some reduced loading times and to preserve the life of the discs, but if you are thinking of buying games over XBLive, then I suggest a 120gb or even the 250gb lmited edition as Bujo mentioned.

I stream my movies over wireless from my laptop or just play them from a memory stick, and both methods work well.

Isn’t M$ also offering movies to download on XBLive now, too? Again, I haven’t explored the newest features much. I don’t thin HULU and Netflix is available outside the US.

I have a Bluray player on my laptop, but wasn’t planning on going out of my way to get one because I thought it was a waste. Even though the quality is impressive, as broadband gets faster, downloading and streaming will be the best choice for sure.

I think they will go this way with the next console, judging by their latest dashboard updates. A 500gb or even 1TB hard drive + a paid monthly account for unlimited movies and music, and they will be dominating the market by a large margin. That is of course, if they can make a console that doesn’t fail after a few months because of heat issues.

So, I’m sick to death of working on my laptop as my primary machine and will be building a new PC in January.

So far, this is what I have planned:

Antec P183 Tower Case - I’ve built a most of the PC’s at work with these and they are just awesome.
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Mobo
Intel Core i7 920 “D0 Stepping” 2.66Ghz
850W Corsair HX Powersupply
6GB DDR OCZ Platinum, PC3-12800C7 1600MHz
LG 24" LCD - LED BACKLIT! - http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/productimage/24-005-134-02.jpg
GeForce GTX 285, 1024MB GDDR3
640gb WD HDD
Wireless N PCI Card

I’ll be getting an external 2TB which I’ll use for all my data.

Anyone have any suggestions, for or against?

Assassin’s creed 2 looks cool.

What a sick trailer!
