Playing the Titanfall beta now, it’s a must have for Xbox One owners. I’m not surprised many are calling it the Call of Duty killer. The beta is that good.
No, tell me it sucks and its terrible and you don’t like it. Haha wish it was for ps4 as well… I’m sur the developers would like it to be considered that. If I remember correctly they area group of guys that worked for the COD team and felt they were wronged so they broke off and started their own franchise. It would be really cool if they were the ones to dethrone the average monotony that is the call of duty franchise…
Ya I wish it was on ps4 too. It’s real good.
Respectfully, I don’t agree. It seems like a cool game but maybe its just not my cup of tea. It feels like too much, every match was one team got their titans and then nobody could leave shelter from the other team. Granted, I only played for a couple hours on Saturday morning, but it sounded like everyone (not just me) was frustrated in the games I participated in.
Actually something I’m quite interested in. How is the balancing USMC? The developers talked up the balancing of pilots vs titans quite well. Sort of mobility vs brute sort of deal. But does it work?

Personally I think the balance is spot on. Like almost everyone, the balance between the pilots and Titans was what I was most skeptical of.
The Titan are not invincible, not by a long shot. Yesterday I routinely took down 2 or 3 Titans a game on foot. A Titan with full health can be take down by a single pilot in 2 ways pretty easily. First you have an anti-titan weapon at all times, in the beta it was a rocket launcher and a chain gun type weapon (sidewinder I think it was called). If you’re patient enough you can take a Titan with either. It does take several hits. The other way, which is much more effective and fun, is to jump on and “rodeo” a Titan. It takes 1-3 clips to “doom” a Titan, ie it will eventually explode. 2-4 clips will explode the titan (it all depends on where their health and shield is of course). You might think that’s a lot, but it’s really not, you’re talking about maybe 20-25 seconds if you and only you are attacking the Titan. 2 Pilots can take a titan down in a matter of seconds. Also, the Titan pilot being rodeo’d is at your mercy unless they happen to have an anti-rodeo perk equipped (rare so far) or they get out of their Titan, which exposes them to you off course. It adds a kind of one-on-one duel element that can be pretty fun.
Also everyone gets a Titan at least once per game and that Titan is yours and only yours. No one can take it and you can even start in it. So there are no worries about being stuck with multiple enemy titans on the field and you not getting one. That said, if you have a team that communicates and is willing to work together you can dominate with the Titans. I was playing with 5 other guys and we would wait until all 5 of use had our titans and then call them in together. We’d also stay close to each other so we could team up on enemy Titans and kill enemy pilots trying to Rodeo teammates. Tactics can play a role.
One other thing, the Titan weapons aren’t over powering. A pilot can survive a Titan attack if he can get to cover quickly.
The other issue I was skeptical about was the use of AI. Well, imo, it adds quite a bit of value to the game. Each team has a lot of AI “grunts” that join in the fight. They are bullet sponges. They don’t kill you, except very rarely. What they do is give you easy kills, which reduce your Titan build time. They can be very helpful in that regard.
Maps do far also feel pretty balanced. My main complaint about Call of Duty has been the “cluttered” maps. That is not the case so far in TitanFall. There are few spots to just sit and camp and it’s not beneficial either. You will get some guys that go to the highest point and snipe, but again so much is going on it’s not worth it for most. This game is about running around and fucking shit up.
Lastly, you don’t die that much. Most games I would die 3-4 times never dying more than 6 times. I’d also usually get about 6 pilot kills and 3 or so Titan kills (a Titan kill does not automatically give you a pilot kill. You have a chance to escape and there’s an auto eject perk). It seems like nothing right? boring, not exactly. I usually have 20 or so grunt kills too. So you are constantly fighting and killing the enemy, while not dying over and over and over again. You spend more time alive and playing per round than in Call of Duty with out question. Unlike Call of Duty, you always feel like you’re dealing out much more damage than you are taking even if the other pilots are better than you. It’s definitely more fun this way imo.
