…and what’s more what is with this shit about fear? what about the freedom to not like some people without some dick telling you it’s because you’re supposedly “racist” or a “homophobe?” ahahah

i had gay neighbors (not jim neighbors) that i was great friends with. some of the people they had over for parties i didn’t like. had nothing to do with gay or black.

but there’s always somebody that sets themselves above the rest because evidently they can read minds and declare you afraid of whatever pussy idea they made up in their mind.

Who said you weren’t free to do that? You’re actually mad society came up with words to describe something? Sounds like a pedophile complaining for being called a pedophile just because he likes to see little boys naked. You’re free to be racist and homophobic, and the rest of us are free to call you that.

The unintentional humor is amazing though. Also the “I have a gay friend” or “I have a black friend” is usually the hallmark defense of racist and homophobes. You have a list of black people you like. I don’t. You’re racist and I’m not. I think you should embrace your bigotry. Be proud of it man! At the end of the day you’re going to fear and dislike black people. That’s just who you are. At least quit trying to convince the world of something you’re not.

i had gay neighbors on either side of me for eight years. i lived in an upscale older neighborhood and lived around the corner from the city’s mayor. muhammad ali was married in the mayors home. i met ali back in the 1980’s.

the one side was a dude that had a beautiful blond 19 year old daughter from a marriage he left after twenty-two years. he shared his house with two other men. the other side was a doctor and his live in which i visit with to this day.

google that info you should be able to find out who i am. it ain’t hard.

To Overfiend/ Conservative Dog and others that this may apply to. I think this merits explanation…

If you hate, or dislike gay people categorically. What is the reason for it? You say not homophobia, but the word homosexual only describes a persons sexuality.

Is there something other than sexuality that makes you dislike all gays that isn’t encompassed in the descriptive of the word homosexual?

Or did i misunderstand you?

Kinda seems like, if you dislike someone and all you know about them is they are homosexual, that would be the definition of homophobia.

As to your first point, using the terms black or gay doesn’t make you racist or homophobic and I never even attempted to say that. Making homophobic or racist remarks consistently and attempting to defend with “but I have a black co-worker!” or “I had a gay neighbor” is hilarious.

Hint: People who aren’t racist or aren’t homophobic don’t have to spend time convincing other people of that. 100% of the time racist and homophobic people are the ones doing that. Think about it.

It’s don’t know the particular person(s), but it’s not fear and it quite possibly never was. My son says the word ‘poop’ ten times every hour, about once a week he has a ‘poop parade’ around the house. I’m not scared of the word poop or the act of pooping when I invoke God and common decency to get him to stop.

A cousin of mine that the family hadn’t heard from for a couple of years mailed out “wedding invitations”. I use quotes as they announced her marriage to her girlfriend, but that there would be no ceremony and it turned out only witnesses would be in attendance. No family and not by the family’s choice. To top it off, the announcement explicitly asked that no gifts be given but that a donation to GLAAD should be made to honor the occasion. 18 or so months later, my brother-in-law came out to my wife. The first thing he said to her was not to tell me, to which she, rightfully, responded “Since when does your sex life hold sway over our marriage?” His coming out got more irritating from there. I’ve met, lived with, and worked with other homosexuals (how could it be otherwise?) their homosexuality was rarely an issue. Whenever it was an issue it was just that, an issue, there was never an actual problem to be solved or a mutual solution to be sought. Only demanding temper-tantrums that the rest of us were supposed to deal with.

There’s a joke that I’ve heard repeatedly applied to various vain fads and practices that’s pretty apt; How can you tell if someone is gay? You don’t, they tell you.

I’m sure 'dog has an answer of his own, but my answer is and always has been that it’s not my business until the Federal Gov’t makes it my business. When I’m taxed one way regardless of my sexuality and they’re taxed another based on theirs, then yeah, my taxation is a concern. When I’m taxed to support social healthcare regardless of my perception of their health and lifestyle choices, then yeah, my taxation is my business.

Just like there’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” and then there’s “we don’t have to ask”; there’s “you worry about you” and then there’s “shut up and gimme your money”.

Edit: And it should be pointed out that in the OP’s examples, the wedding photographer, bridal shop, etc. were worrying about themselves. It’s not like they were punching out other photographers who were working gay weddings or finding transgendered people on the street waving wedding dresses in their face and saying, “Naaahope, can’t have this!!!”.

[quote]H factor wrote:

Arguing against ‘I have a gay friend’ statements over the internet is the hallmark of stupidity for several reasons;

  1. People who have phobias don’t generally publicly identify with the subject of their phobia. You don’t see a lot of agorophobes photoshopping themselves skydiving or arachnophobes posting ‘I lived with a tarantula once…’ on the internet.

  2. If you count people who ‘were gay’ as gay then the percentage of the population that is gay rises to near 10%, if he has 10 friends, one of them is probably gay.

  3. Circular logic works both ways, you presuming he only has one black friend or that his having only one black friend makes him a racist is very bigoted (esp. in light of no.2). There was one black family in the church where I grew up, my brother dated the daughter and took her to prom, we ended up with a burning cross on our lawn and they family moved away. I went from one black friend to zero black friends, guess that means I’m pretty racist, huh?

  4. This is the internet for Christ’s sake, it’s Adam Smith’s principals applied to bullshit, we all chip do our best to maximize it and the only thing that you know for sure is that in any exchange of bullshit, as much as you’re giving to him, he’s giving it and more back to you.
