Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease-GERD

i used to have terrible reflux. my gastroenterologist ordered an EGD which is a scope down your throat to have a look at the stomach lining. he found lots of erosions and consequently placed me on prilosec. i think its a histamine receptor antagonist. an any case the prilosec worked almost immediately and after 6 months i was able to drop the drug regimen and haven’t had a recurrence.

I am a long term sufferer, to the point where I have enough scar tissue that it can interfere with swallowing. I have to be careful with rice dishes, as the sticky stuff can get stuck at the bottom. Very unconfortable. I do take prilosec, but not every day. And now I will tell you something I have not heard anywhere else. Perhaps those with more direct medical knowledge can explain this. If I go on anything approaching a keto diet, it just goes away. If I want it to flare up, all I need is some pasta and cake. Not sure why.

Stop with the ephedra. Limit coffee…proven fact–2 cups will pull your brain out of bed as well as 10. Limit spices and processed foods. (Bland diet) Drink alot of water. Sleep plenty. Raise carbohydrates (veggies, watermelon, etc). And stay on it for several months. Wait a second…you’ve already done this. My question is why fix a problem with medication when the problem is caused by diet?

The problem is not CAUSED by diet. It can be exacerbated by diet, but it is not the cause.

Thanks for the response on this one everyone. Your feedback is appreciated. Has anyone heard of aciphex before? How effective is it?
How do you heal erosions/scarring in the esophagus? Is surgery usually needed?
