With shipping, I paid almost that much CAD.
Still 100% worth it.
I got in on the pre-release order which allowed for a discount of some variety. I remember how excited I was when it came in. My in-laws were in town, and I was totally anti-social reading my new book the whole time, haha.
3/8/2021 - Off-day
Went through Wendler’s active recovery to try and help my back. Seems to have worked, at least to an extent. I really pissed off my left SI joint deadlifting.
Next priority is to get the knot in my left trap to go away.
I may do TM x 1 deload for squat and bench today.
3/9/2021 - Deload Day 1
Agile 8
Squat - 380 x 1
Bench - 255 x 1
4 x 400m (Running with the Devil) - Time: 15 minutes
Lifts felt like shit but I hung from my bar, used my inversion table, and did all sorts of funky shit to get my left SI joint feeling better. I don’t know what worked, but something worked and I feel better. Cardio went much better than expected.
Also, beginning work on my plan for the next phase of lifting. I’m thinking I wanna do Triumvirate 3 days per week, 2 days of Running with the Devil, and 1 longer run or cycle on the weekends. I’d like to start getting out to parks and enjoying nature as the weather gets nicer. Finding that I need to schedule my cardio right into my programs or I drop it like a dunce.
Likely will do a 2x per week program after Triumvirate so that I can get a strongman day or two in.
Fuck yeah.
Also, since you’re in the same lane as me in terms of loving the combination of strength and aerobic training, check out The Hybrid Athlete. I know I was raving about it over in my log, but seriously, it’s such a great read.
Hell yeah man, will do! It’ll feel weird to cheat on 5/3/1 reading-wise, but diversity isn’t a bad thing.
Totally get that, but while this book does have a programming section at the end, it’s way more about implementation of concepts, and in my opinion makes a great companion to a more dedicated programming book like 5/3/1.
3/12/2021 - Deload Day 2
Deadlift - 450
Press - 150
It took a grand total of 23 minutes to work up to these numbers. Deadlift was all conventional, which seemed to make my back feel better. Go fucking figure.
Planning for 16 x 100m Runnin’ with the Devil right before lunch. If I feel froggy I may do 2 x 400m then 8 x 100m.
Ran with the devil. 16 x 100m hill sprints. Time: 20:30
I have the 80% rule nailed for the 100m distance - challenged myself but it wasn’t torture. There’s some energy left in the tank.
What do you use to track the distance here? Do you have a watch or something?
I used a run mapping website to trace my routes on the longer runs after the fact, then got curious and checked out how long my road is and how long the hill is. My road is 400m long and the hill is 100m, so either my neighborhood was designed intelligently or some numbers fell into place.
Pervertor A1W1D1
Up and moving, normal PWO routine including 20 jumps instead of 10
Squat
45 x 5
155 x 5
195 x 5
235 x 3
275 x 3
310 x 3
350 x 6
275 x 15 - squat shoes
Assistance - giant set
Nordic ham curls - 5 x 10
BB curls - 45 lbs - 5 x 15
Seated DB press - 30 lbs - 5 x 15
My back held up just fine today but I felt weak and slow. The squat shoes felt like a complete cheat code for the widowmaker, though, so may try to use them regularly (sorry @whang ). Assistance was good but the extra volume was tough. Really gonna try and nail down food and rest from here on out.
Now, onto a less fun topic. I’ve been mentally struggling for the last few months, both in the vein of anxiety and depression. I recognize unhealthy and destructive thought/action patterns, yet do nothing to stop or change them. Almost like my conscious mind doesn’t want me to be happy. Well, I sat down and gave myself a stern talking to and set some very concrete goals for myself this week to try and right the ship. I’ll likely be logging my progress with that as well, because that’s a lot more important than lifting is.
Someone’s feeling saucy today.
You got this, buddy
Get that shit out so it doesn’t get pent up.
Thanks man. I feel better even having a plan and getting that thought in front of me. Just formed some real bad habits in 'rona conditions and am pissed I let that happen. But today’s going much better.
Ran with the devil
4 x 400m in just under 15 minutes.
Lol. Can’t argue with more pounds on the bar or more reps. haha
Not sure if you’re religious, but I’ll be praying for you bro
Thanks man, I appreciate it. This week has been better, the problem was fully under my control. Good because that means I can fix it, but bad because I willfully made myself miserable ![]()
