GarageRocker's Balancing Act

I understand if you don’t like that I read free ebooks on Z library but you can’t say reading a textbook for free is cool and reading a strength training book is uncouth. It’s the same thing. As is downloading a movie or song.

3/5/2021 - Pervertor L2W3D3

Normal PWO routine.

Deadlift
205 x 5
250 x 5
295 x 3
340 x 5
385 x 5
430 x 5
385 - 5 x 5

Assistance
SS w/ deadlift
Ab wheel - 3 x 10

SS w/ each other
Dips - 15, 20
Chest-supported DB row - 45 lbs - 2 x 15

Cardio - run later

Deadlift reps were really, really fast today. The set with 430 all looked like speed reps. I only rocked the ab work as a superset and will likely keep that strategy moving forward - only superset the synergistic assistance with the main lift, then do the other two categories at the end. I felt fresher for the heavy work, which is the priority. Dips felt really good, the rows were a little too heavy so will back off next time.

I disagree. With textbooks, most of the markup is done and given to the publisher. The actual professors who spend tens if not hundreds of hours to write them barely get paid for the success of the textbooks.

Some willingly publish their textbooks for free out of disgust for the system.

It’s kind of a Robinhood (the story character, not the stock app) vs Wall Street. Taking advantage of those that take advantage of others is significantly different when compared to taking advantage of those that go out of their way to help others. I’m no moral authority, so that’s all the further I’m willing/able to expand on that subject without firmly planting both feet on my soapbox of doom.

You can’t decide who does and who doesn’t deserve payment for their work though. That’s my point.

How about this. If I end up using any of the programs in Forever, I will purchase a hard copy and provide proof as requested.

I honestly found the programs to be the least valuable part of the book. Parts 1 and 3 were it for me.

If you legit don’t have the $40 for the book I can buy you a copy dude. Better that than stealing.

Yep, and the concept of leaders/anchors was a game-changer for me. Zero injuries since getting Forever (2 years +) vs being hurt every 2-3 months before. Some of that is because of maturity, but the pedal-to-metal vs cruise concept has helped immensely.

Whether or not I had the money, it’s not where I’d spend $40. If I didn’t see the ebook on there, I wouldn’t have purchased the book instead. Part 1 is nothing new and it’s unlikely I run 5/3/1 again. I was mostly just interested in knowing what all the different acronyms were that I read on these forums. Hence my original question and hence why I wouldn’t spend $40.

Not trying to justify stealing, just explaining my thought process and why I didn’t buy the book.

No, but incredibly well stated and condensed. Super valuable. I felt like I got my $40 from that alone. Was surprised the book wasn’t $100 honestly.

Did you want a copy?

Press
45 x 5
70 x 5
85 x 5
100 x 3
115 x 5
130 x 5
145 x 5
130 - 5 x 5

Assistance
Chin/pull ups - 25 lbs - 5 x 5
Upright rows - 65 lbs - 3 x 15
DB fat grip curls - 15 lbs - 1 x 20
Good mornings - 95 lbs - 2 x 15

Cardio - frantic house cleaning

Press went well but I tweaked my left trap a bit. 145 felt heavy but moved OK, especially for 5 reps. I’m getting better at pushing weights that make me uncomfortable on press and that’s an accomplishment. Assistance was good. Ready for a deload week - planning to do TM x 1 on squat and bench on Monday or Tuesday, then deadlift and press on Thursday.

Think any joker PRs are in the cards for the anchor?

Also, did you ever end up finishing that cabinet you were building? With the distressed hardware and stuff?

Probably on the 5/3/1 week, definitely on press and maybe on the other 3. No reason to do it the other weeks - I need to suck less at reps :grimacing:

And I kinda got too busy to stain the cab and find the good distressed hardware. Now that I’m not in that band anymore I should have time to do it though. Working on a solo project playing southern rock and grunge while I work on a heavier album with those influences.

Sorry it didn’t work out man, I think I read that in the metal thread. But hell yeah on the solo stuff- no one there to tell you no haha.

Ill be following along, I loved the pervertor anchor.

It’s all good man, I kinda forced myself to be excited about it despite it not being the best fit or situation for me. I need to be real pumped about the type of music to be motivated enough to work on it.

And yeah, the anchor for Pervertor is super fun. This first week is a bitch and a half, though.

Getting either that book or Powerlifting Basics Texas Style are two of the best gifts you could ever get yourself dude.

I just saw that all four books in paperback and 1 year subscription to his site are bundled at $122. Actually tempted to get that

The value of all that stuff greatly exceeds that cost. Again: I was SHOCKED that 5/3/1 Forever wasn’t $100 when it was released. That was what I was ready to pay for it. Still would today.

Sorry to derail the training log @garagerocker13
