Gamma Valerolactone

I’ve seen this advertised as a topical GH support gel. You basically smear the stuff on your forearms or abdomen before bedtime and it does the following:

Overview

An increased production and secretion of growth hormone may occur when using GH Bio Gel, as it helps activate GHB and GABA receptors in the brain. Studies show increases of up to 16 times that of resting hGH plasma levels for up to 2 hours after maximum plasma concentration. Also through the temporary inhibition of the release of dopamine, sleep quality increases while surging upon waking, causing an increase state of alertness.

Directions

Roll 2.5ml onto both forearms or on abdomen, covering the entire area. Massage in. Use only before going to bed. 50ml should last 1 month.

Ingredients

Gamma Valerolactone 800mg per ml

Propylene Glycol, Diethyl Glycol-diethyl Ether

The stuff I got from google on this looked kindof promising, like it reduced startle response in rats etc, but I’m just not sure about this one.

Any comments?

Hmm, I dunno about taking it transdermally, or for that matter at all as a performance enhancer. This sounds very dubious to me.

I’ve taken it orally, both at what is a correct dose for achieving a relaxant effect and inadvertently once at vastly more, thirty grams or so. (It happens that, so far as is known, I was the first person use it orally as a potental GHB-like substance, but we decided against bringing it to market. Others did later, it turned out.)

The only effect I perceived from it, and the only use I know for it, is as a GHB sort of relaxant, except less pronouncedly so, not capable of as intense effect because of being enzyme limited in its conversion to the active compound, gamma hydroxyvalyrate.

The oral dose for moderate effect is about 6 or 9 grams if I recall correctly. It surely wasn’t much if any less.

As for stimulating GH release, well, every GH releaser I’ve seen appears not to increase total 24 hour area under the curve. Instead, what was going to be released anyway, gets released a little earlier, producing an impressive measurement when only the short-term figure is given, but no improvement to muscle gains or fat loss whatsoever.

I didn’t know GHV or GVL stimulated GH release. But even if it does, I would doubt it increases 24 hour area under the curve, and besides this, you’d be too mellowed out to train anyway.

I rub a mix of ground up deer antler, gopher urine, and snake poison on my arms before bed.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I’ll not bother with this supplement as a bodybuilding thing. It sounds like it’s not even going to really work as a mellowing out agent, so I wont bother with it from that side of the equation either.

teh Gamma!

I’m guessing the container has a Hulk reference, right?

sounds like a derivative or valerian root, which does put you a more relaxed state and deeper REM thus higher GH release…no magic here…

I think GVL is like GHB, which is something used in the electronics industry, supplement market, recreation drug users and it can also be used for date rape i believe.

I’m not sure its herbal at all.

I thought I was the only one doing this.
