My God I’m still like reeling from this lol.
Hey for those of you who read the books, would you say the executed (lol) the scene well in the series? I mean even having not read the books it felt to me like they must have done a masterful job of it.

Mmmmmmm, well slight changes for the better. They also swapped replaced slow kid for a timid wife as the sacrificial kill

It definitely had the same impact as in the books, but I think Catelynn’s suspicion and uneasiness mount more gradually in the book but that could just be due to the limitations of the format.
I knew that it was going to happen from the very start of the episode, so spent an hour going “fuck fuck fuck fuck” in my head.
It’s an added shame as the actor playing Robb really came along in this season.

Ah yeah they could have eased her into the suspicious state a little more. Although knowing about it now I may have picked up on some more things I dunno. I just noticed when the Hound was coming into town that something was fucked up; and then the mail underneath that dude’s shirt… OH NO!

I watched thinking he is the best option for a leader in that world outside of Eddard (also killed). Being a born leader will get you jacked in that world.

So I have read the source material obviously. My girl has not. I was ready for last night, and just loved watching her reaction.
I haven’t read the source material, but I knew something was up seriously. Before all that went down my friend and I had a conversation something like this:
me: “Dude I’m really nervous right now. I’m extremely uneasy. They’ve been going on for like 15 minutes with only good things. They never do that. Something bad is always happening. If they’re going this long with all this happy crap, I keep feeling like they’re about to do something insanely terrible”
him: “Yeah, good things don’t happen in this show. I’m waiting for something bad to happen”
badness takes place
me: “Wow, fuck me” storms off
him: “What the fuck, why do I even watch this show”
I still remember reading the first book, waiting for someone to save Ned at the last second. It was like 2 in the morning and I was in Mexico on a dive trip. Through the book on the floor. Not a wink of sleep was had that night.
I stopped watching the show for a while after that, I was so pissed.

…I was dreading the episode quite a bit. In your mind, did the show pay the proper respect to the source material?
Not quite. The Red Wedding episode captured the shock of the moment but not its horror.
I agree. I think they were trying to capture the shock so much that they left out the buildup that would have given us the horror. Fans of “Book Catelyn” complain loudly about the way that “Show Catelyn” has been handled, and this is more fodder for that argument. Book Cat was seemingly paranoid about the bread and salt that symbolized the guest right, and she was suspicious the entire time that they were at the Twins.
Right, so in the book the whole sequence is one of slowly dawning awfulness. It just gets worse and worse, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Here a trap door swings open and everyone falls, and it’s scary and surprising, but there’s nothing I’ll remember about the televised scene the way I’ll never forget the feeling of that cold knife drawing across Cat’s neck in the book.

I don’t watch the show anymore since the end of last season but I could tell what part of the books they finally got to just going by my facebook feed.
Well and I didn’t see anything coming and was really looking Forward for some good Hollywood time, but they really delivered in Terms of Action. Why all of it has always to be packed at the end of the season I don’t get, the episodes before were fairly uneventful and now These deaths in series…
And the best is as John Snow escapes and Bran becomes the powerful psychic he is I was thinking: “hey, end of the day there’s no going around this Stark Family, they have so many assets they have to win this war.” Now that Robb is dead and his Generals as well, I think the Starks are fucked for a Long time… Too bad I really like those guys.
And the beach Boy of the queen is really good, like his way of talking and doing things. When is that Girl finally hitting ground on the other side of the sea?
G
Well that was highly unexpected. Seems to be very few happy endings in this show, but the way they execute the scenes is amazing.
great episode! Even knowing what happened ahead of time I was still on the edge of my seat. My girl was shocked by it as well. They definitely added a little bit more for shock value but god damn that was a good scene.
I was curious how they were gonna have Cat do what she did in the book- clawing her own face apart. That would probably be a little difficult to do?
Having Talisa instead of Jeyne in the T.V. show certainly did add to the shock value of the scene. I would imagine most people freaked out simply because of the brutal way in which Talisa dies more than the shock of seeing Robb and his entire party get massacred.
And Robb’s face at seeing the whole thing is “priceless”. I can’t imagine the shock of seeing your pregnant wife get stabbed, especially when you’re not even over 20…
That being said, removing Jeyne did make Robb look more like a good guy than he really is. I mean, the only reason he married Jeyne (and effectively fucked his entire cause in the process) was because he slept with her. In the T.V. show, Robb marries Talisa because he’s in love with her. Obviously marrying someone out of love rather than out of duty sounds better. I don’t think people would have been nearly as shocked if things went exactly as they did in the book.
Which is why this T.V. show is more awesome than the book in certain ways. It actually knows how to deal with the source material.
I havent gotten to the “red wedding” in the books yet, but can someone explain the difference between the book and show?

Jeyne doesn’t come to the twins.
The Band plays really badly (not real musicians - crossbowmen)
Catelyn is suspiscious and only relaxes one she forces Walder to share salt. Grey Wind starts acting up and Rob agrees to have him locked up against his mother’s wishes.
There is a deliberate attempt to get GreatJohn Umber drunk (he still puts up a decent fight when things go pearshaped)
As soon as The Rains of Castermere starts it all goes to hell in a handbasket.
Catelyn’s hostage is an idiot nephew not the wife.
There is more detail in the massacre of the troops (three large tents for the feast dropped on Rob’s troops and set on fire with them in them.
That’s all I noticed

Can’t wait to catch up with the books, just struggling to find the time at the moment. He has certainly shown he is not afraid to have some shocking events in the plot. Anyone know when the next book is out, can’t seem to find anything on the internet.
