Ok so what do you guys think about the last scene in that trailer where the dragon is flying up to te boat? That scene makes the dragon look quite large but the dragons didn’t really grow past cat sized until the last book IIRC? I’m not sure if its just the angle that makes it look larger than it actually is or if they will speed along the growth of the dragons for the show.

I would be happy if they did because that was one thing that frustrated me a bit about the books. I wanted the dragons to get bigger faster and starting ripping faces off.
I assume they’re speeding along the growth of the dragons … but yea, at that point in the books they weren’t any larger than a small dog
I hope they do. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in season 3.

Season 1 followed the first book to the T.

Season 2 they changed some things up and took some liberties which was nice and kind of unexpected (nothing earth shattering though)

Wonder what they’ll do in season 3?
I actually didn’t mind the changes made in season 2 … Even though season 1 was phenomenal … season 2 felt “fresh” to me and there were some surprises and deviations I rather enjoyed (Arya’s interactions with Tywin were cool … a little more focus on Robb Stark was a welcome change … although I would’ve liked to see Reek with Theon)

I think season 3 will have some unexpected but well done deviations … as long as they logically arrive at the same major places … given the amount of material they have to work with … I’m ok with it

I’m glad I’m not the only one finding book 4 a bit of a slog. I’ve got about 200 pages to the end but it’s tough going. It’s good to know it’s set up for book 5 because it feels like it’s strayed entirely from the first three books. I’ve been reading them back to back and may take a bit of a break.

The character I miss the most in this book is Tyrion. He’s one of my favourites. Cersei really is quite a sick bitch and I find her bits tough. I have been enjoying the development of Brienne and the interaction she had with Jaime.
At first, I was annoyed that seemingly every-other-chapter in AFFC is about Cersei. But I did come around and really start enjoying the “glimpse into her mind/perspective” in much the same way as Jaime’s chapters.

And I might be the only one who actually enjoyed the chapters in Dorne, certainly preferred those to whatever was going on in the Eyrie. But I suppose I’m even enjoying that storyline, so nevermind.
It’s interesting what you said about Cersei. At first I was sympathetic but when she starts sending all the women she doesn’t like to visit with Qyburn, it turned me off.

However, I find her interesting in that she wants to lead and struggles to lead but was never given the tools that her brothers were given because she was a girl so she doesn’t know how to do it effectively. You can feel her rage in how she was sold to Robert and continues to lack support from her own family, most specifically her uncle Kevan. At that stage of the story though, is the lack of support because she’s a woman or because she’s becoming unraveled? Would she be less crazy and a better leader if she were given the support and tools her brothers had? Her rage spills over into her over reactions and lack of subtlety.
You lost me completely. What tools? What was Tyrion given that Cersei was not?
Agreed. To me, Tywin was split up into his 3 kids. Jamie got his physical abilities, Tyrion got his wits and Cersei got his cruelty. My impression is that she thinks far more highly of herself than she actually deserves.

IIRC the dragons were carrying away sheep (and one child) at the start of book 5, so they must have been a decent size by the end of book 3.

At one point in book 4, their aunt Genna (?), Tywin’s younger sister tells Jaime that he is not Tywin’s true son, Tyrion is. That isn’t to mean Jaime isn’t his son but that Tyrion more closely resembles him in abilities. She had told Tywin year’s ago and he didn’t speak to her for six months.

Tywin never struck me as cruel for cruelties sake. For him it was just business. He seemed far too cold.

Tywin was deeply affected by how his father was perceived. He saw his father become a foolish and weak man (in his eyes). So he took it upon himself to restore the prestige of house Lannister of Castlery Rock.

He apparently became the cold Tywin we all know and love after the death of his wife.

Doesn’t she get her Unsullied via dragon fire fatality in book 3? They aren’t big enough to ride yet but they can still fuck shit up.

I cancelled my HBO so I’m going to have to watch this at my in-laws’ house. Fuck.

Perhaps “cruel” was not the right word. Ruthless may be better. Both Jamie and Tyrion are kinder than their father where as Cersei isn’t.

This is getting pretty full of spoilers too.

She did, as far as i recall she enters the room with the guys selling em all (who were trying to swindle her) and after she buys every last one she sicks the dragons on them and burns em up because they had no one left to protect them.

That wart was sweet. But as I remember it they were still very small? Like MAYBE the size of a dog? I’m thinking smaller than that still though? They didn’t really start growing quickly until they were free roaming around. More space = bigger dragons? Something like that.

I could be way off base here though.

Yes. The point I was trying to make is that the book covers a fair amount of time and they are growing throughout. By the end of book 3/start of book 5 they likely were as large as we saw in the clip.

Yes. The point I was trying to make is that the book covers a fair amount of time and they are growing throughout. By the end of book 3/start of book 5 they likely were as large as we saw in the clip.
Dude … I had typed out a 3 paragraph response in an attempt to say exactly what you just did (but it was tl). Thanks for being succinct

yah!

I am disappoint … one of my favorite characters from the books, Strong Belwas, was not present :frowning:

Also, I liked the twist of Littlefinger pulling the strings of the drunk Knight to get Sansa out … but now it’s just Littlefinger

Also, why isn’t Qyburn with the Brave Companions? I am disappoint

The drunk knight, I forget his name, should appear soon. He was in last season when Joffrey almost drowned him… I’m assuming that scene was so they could introduce him again to Sansa this season.

We’ll see … I read an interview with Martin and I guess that this season will be the biggest deviation from the books … It seems they’re making things very straight-forward and cutting out a lot of the intrigue that’s in the books (Aristan Whitebeard for instance … The Drunk Knight as a catspaw, Littlefinger plotting directly with Sansa for escape, etc.)
