My knowledge of GABA is admittedly limited, but I was wondering if there’s any risk/drawback to taking it with regard to shutting down your body’s own production of the stuff, as would be the case if one were taking exogenous testosterone. Is there any such risk with supplemental GABA?
I used it for a while about 11 years ago (when I was in college), taking 5 grams sublingually before bed. It definitely helped me sleep like a log, and I sometimes had to make sure I was sitting down when I took it, as it would occasionally give me a few seconds of dizziness when I took it. Whether that was good or bad, I don’t know.
I don’t know if you’ve any of you have read Eric Braverman’s book, “The Edge Effect,” but according to the tests in that book I am GABA deficient. Braverman mentions taking actual GABA as one of the suggested supplements to remedy this, but he doesn’t elaborate on the pros or cons of GABA supplementation. I’m not looking at it for the alleged GH-increasing effects, which may or may not be real, but just to increase my own GABA levels, which are apparently low, and to help with deeper sleep. (And yes, I already take ZMA).
Thanks in advance.
