It’s a cartoon made into a movie, be happy they got that right. Hell, guys like me think that the new G.I. Joes are a little silly, why not go totally old school. you know, pre kung fu grip?
I’m not expecting much, but i think it should be entertaining at least.

…because that version sucked ass. Wasn’t the original GI Joe made around the start of the Viet Nam War? The version we are talking about actually had a story line behind and memorable characters. I don’t think the original idea was anything more than a doll meant to represent generic soldiers.

Is the 80’s cartoon series available on DVD? If not, anywhere on the Internet?
Loved the cartoon and the movie. Had all the action figures as well. I will be seeing the movie and have tried to stay away from the discussions regarding plot lines and whatnot. I want to judge this for myself.
There are a ton on Youtube, I watched a bunch myself.
Yep, the original line started in 1964 and simply had four different dolls meant to represent the four branches of military. There was no character development or any back story. They were just dolls that looked like soldiers.
Tom, you really think a movie based on “generic solder dolls” would make a great movie?

Arguably the movie most hated by die hard fans, even before its release, is opening this week. I don’t think there’s been another movie with more anti-hype than this one.
I’m going to see it Friday while hoping there’s at least a shred of the original storylines involved. Will I be in the theater by myself?
G.I. Joe has die hard fans? G.I. Joe?
Star Trek has fans. Star Wars, the X-Men, Wolverine. But I don’t think anyone holds a torch for G.I. Joe. I liked the show as a kid, but I haven’t given a shit about it in 20 years, and I don’t think anyone else has either. But regardless of whether or not I have any nostalgia for G.I. Joe, the trailer looks auful, and I wouldn’t watch it for anything.
Dude, how old are you? GI Joe hooked a whole generation when it came out with that Cobra-la cartoon movie and showed a soldier getting shot (with blood) for the first time that I can remember in an American cartoon. I don’t know anyone in the 3rd grade who wasn’t a fan.
Action figures Professor, action figures. Girls had dolls.
That was before action figures though. Those things were 12" tall like a Barbie Doll and had about as much “action” to them as one as well. The 60’s sucked for toys apparently.
Why people cant just appreciate a decent action flick loosley based on an old cartoon is beyond me… new media does NOT have to follow old stuff 100% to be good in it own right…
That said, I already have my tickets for tomorrow night !!
go Joe !!
also, having a commercial at the begining or ending would be epic to do it live action…

I was being facetious. It’s darn hard to translate a cartoon to the big screen. Doing it straight up would probably be pretty dumb. I saw the G.I. Joe cartoons when I was in my mid 20s. I thought they were fun, but pretty little kid like.
There are thing s they will have to do that might disappoint their 3rd grade fans.

I sure as hell don’t.
Again, I was being facetious and poking fun at guys complaining about translating a cartoon to a movie 20+ years later.
I have seen GI Joe. I liked it. I’m not a hardcore GI Joe fan like X and Bujo, but I know more than your average joe(lol lol lol)
The action was good, the acting was fine, Marlon Wayans was serious when shit was serious and made decent jokes, and the Excelerator suits were used in good proportion.
Storm Shadow is a Fucking BEAST! I’d much rather have him on my side than Snake Eyes. Both were bad asses.
There was flaws and hardcore Joe Fans will bitch about them. I won’t give spoilers. Except one:

um, where the fuck is Cobra Commander?
I think he is in it only not with the mask. I am going to see this whether it sucks or not. Everyone thought the first Transformers would suck also and it cleaned up at the box office. Everyone thought Batman Begins would suck as well and it basically rewrote the script on how super hero movies are done.
I’ll give it a chance…and if it sucks, I will gladly verbally rip it to shreds.
Ok, fucked up face with scuba mask is cool, but Destro has no metal face. Come on! That was the cool thing about him. His metal fucking face!
Destro has a metal face in the beginning and end stop bitching
If you’re a serious movie buff, you’ll dislike the movie. The plot’s really weak, and there were many many many instances where I laughed because of how stupid/improbable/cheesy the script was. The actors aren’t all that great either.
However, if you go into it realizing it’s an action hero movie and nothing more, I think you’ll enjoy it. There are a number of good action scenes, so I was pretty entertained. (It helps that Sienna Miller is absolutely smokin’ in the movie, and so is Rachel Nichols.)
Would I ever watch it again? Highly unlikely. Will I watch the sequel? Probably.

Forget this hater.
Get the stick out of your ass, watch the movie, and have fun.

Oh yeah, I dug the rest of the movie too after I accepted the fact the visual effects were not going to be on par with movies like Iron Man. While several of the details conflict with original Joe cartoons, G.I. Joe does capture their spirit, constant action, and playful cheesiness.
