I had transformers and go-bots, but GI Joe was my thing, the cartoons and all that. Definitely pumped about this movie.

My brother and I got arrested for trying to shoplift about 10 GI-Joes when we were like 9. That sucked, but we deserved it.

I’m going to give it a look though, it’s supposedly the beginning of Cobra, so hell, maybe Destro gets his ass dunked in some acid and needs the silver mask by the time credits roll.

I’m totally ok with people being skeptics about well; anything. But unless you have been following the production of have a bootleg copy of it your basing your statements on nothing. It is a 0:30 second trailer, they can’t show 100% of who is going to be in the movie (and why would they?), and it says ‘the rise of cobra’ not ‘halfway into the series where everyone is there’ so that leaves space for people to show up, have ‘accidents’ and become who we remember from cartoons.
Also, most of the episodes i remember weren’t shot in a major city. That would be a boring movie. Why would there be an entire movie of a desert scene? With it being shot in more of a metropolis you have the chance to see more action and shit blowing up haa…
but hey…it’s a GI Joe movie, it’s not going to be the next Scarface.
I’m still pumped.

Uhm, EVERYBODY knows that Destro’s mask is the result of a family oath to wear masks and side with evil in order to honor an ancestor who was wrongly accused and forced to wear a similar mask.
Yeah, I’m not real hopeful about this movie. Although, I must say, I enjoyed the hell out of the Transformers movie, even though it wasn’t a purist’s vision.
As a side note, while I’m all for reliving my youth, when do you think we’re going to see, like, an original thought come out of Hollywood again?

^ I stand corrected, last time I checked the IMDB page, Zartan wasn’t in the credits. At least there is something to smile about.
You all think that I might be overreaching a bit, but I really haven’t seen anything in this movie, besides Snake Eyes and the Baroness, that really reaches out to me and makes me feel good about this. I don’t think I am being skeptical, just extremely cautious.
Transformers was a let down, not as bad as I thought it would be, but it was still bad. I don’t think it would have been too much to ask to at least stay “true” to what I remember about the Transformers.
The track record of Hollywood, when it comes to remakes like this, speaks for itself. I am basing my expectations on their past fuck-ups. Let’s face it, Hollywood has a knack of taking really great ideas for movies, and totally doing the WRONG thing with them.
Personally, I really do hope that I am wrong and that I will be forced to eat crow. GI-Joe was a fucking staple of my childhood, almost to a point of being a religion, and now Hollywood wants a chance to ruin it. I will hold out all hope until I see it, and I am expecting to see an insulting piece of garbage.

I’m not a purist, and I have no issue with SOME of the changes that Hollywood makes to their take on comics and cartoons. But some of their crap is getting really bad.

I thought Transformers rocked even though it didn’t follow the complete story line of the old cartoons. I think if I expect these types of movies to be absolutely pure then I should expect a bowl of Honey Smacks and my old Big Bird rocking chair to be waiting for me in the theater too, since that’s how I watched that shit back in the day.

I agree that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is extremely underrated. I think the problem is that he has made his reputation in indie films, and most people still think of him as ‘the kid from 3rd Rock From The Sun’, because that is his most mainstream role to date. He, along with Christopher Eccleston, are two of the strongest actors in the cast. I’m going to be more worried about the charisma bypass know as Channing Tatum.
Talking of Chris Eccleston, the Destro mask is definitely going to make an appearance in the movie (it will be worn in flashback by one of his ancestors), and there are rumors that Eccleston himself will wear it by the time the credits roll.

This is true. I remember the first time I think I saw Gordon-Levitt’s name attached to a film a few years ago and I remember thinking, "What?! That nerd from “3rd Rock? Who put him in a movie?” Then, I saw the guy act and realized that he actually does have talent.
I’m more concerned with Tatum at this point. The only thing I’ve seen him in was Stop-Loss and I don’t remember him standing out in that film. What kind of name is Channing anyway?
