I just did a shortened session today as I feel quite weak on my new diet, I think I’ll take a couple of days to get back in the swing of it. The clean and jerks felt reasonably good though.
The clean and jerks weren’t feeling very crisp today, and I didn’t want to push it with bad form, so I just did 5 sets. This log is filling up fast, I’m not going to fit the next 3 weeks until the challenge in 2 pages! Not sure if I’m going to start a new log.
I had a huge amount of pain and stiffness in my neck yesterday and I wonder if it’s because I’m not warming up properly, so today I moved the clean and jerks to the end of my session. This also has the benefit of getting me used to doing the clean and jerks in a fatigued state.
My right knee had a couple of pangs of pain on the squats, but nothing outrageous. My neck still didn’t feel great but I wasn’t expecting it to. All movements felt quite strong :).

Oh, come now lad, it’s all the rage.
I do the same with my 40 kg clean and pressing. I can now manage the weight quite easily but it’s difficult to go from zero straight to that. I need to do a few goblet squats and a few lighter presses before starting on that beast.
This was a good session. It strikes me that my neck issues might be related to imbalances in my traps, as I do a lot of indirect upper trap work but nothing for the lower traps. So today I decided to do pull-ups and pulldowns. The pulldowns felt especially good on my neck, so I do think this is part of the problem.
Lol you’re right AG. It is a heavy weight to jump straight into.
Then I did 5x20 lat pulldowns and machine rows. The next week is going to be terrible for training as I’m doing night shifts and I’m coming down with a cold. I think I’ll just have to be conservative and minimise damage rather than try to improve. My neck feels pretty bad, I think I’m going to treat myself to a proper sports massage after the challenge.
This week is going badly, the nights are rough, I’ve got a cold and on Monday evening I twisted my left knee and it swelled right up. I attempted some goblet squats today because I thought it might be the kind of issue that would respond well to some light well-controlled reps, but it was complete agony. I think I’ve tweaked a knee ligament. My neck is also feeling worse than usual.
It’s definitely time to make my training as specific as possible in the final run-up to this challenge. Tonight I did 5 sets of 2 (each hand) in 5min, so a total of 20 reps. This felt challenging but I’m not completely exhausted now, so hopefully on the day of the challenge I’ll be able to push myself to get 25 or so.

This is going to be a heck of a showdown…I’ve not tested myself specifically but I estimate this is about where I am as well!
The past fortnight has actually been really good, it felt like it wasn’t going well but looking back it has been good. For the first time my bodyweight was below 93kg every day and I did 8 sessions, 6 including 40kg clean and jerks. I’m going to take this weekend off training to full recover from my night shifts and to rest my knee, then next week I’m going to hit it quite hard.

Yes it’s going to be great! I can see this challenge being all mental when it comes to it. It’s going to be tough! How’s your weight by the way? I think I’ll be able to weigh in under 200lbs but it’ll be tricky.

Ha, I might have to take a penalty for being over weight. I’m still hovering in the 208-210 range, despite my best intentions of cutting, my workouts have just felt so good that I’ve been reluctant to mess with what’s been working.
Warm-Up [/b]
Hip circles, goblet squats and shrugs
Clean and Jerks
40kg: 5x2 (EMOM)
Goblet Squats
28kg: 3x10 (voodoo floss)
Kettlebell Swing
28kg: 25
Bodyweight: 93.0kg
The clean and jerks felt really off today, I came close to missing some of the reps. I’m just going to repeat this session until Thursday, take Friday off then do this challenge on Saturday. That’s fair enough ActivitiesGuy, let’s scrap the weight limit!
Kettlebell Clean and Jerks
40kg: 28 total reps in 5min
Kettlebell Front Squat
2x28kg: 13
Kettlebell Rows
40kg: 11
Bodyweight: 93.0kg
Something came up for this weekend so I thought I’d do the challenge later on this week, but I felt good today and thought I’d just go for it. I had 2 rockstars as a sort of pre-workout, and all that did was give me palpitations and make me sweat even more than usual lol! After the challenge I decided to go for a couple of other PRs and got 13 reps on the front squat and 11 on the rows (although the form wasn’t perfect). A good session.
Yeesh. I should’ve known this was going be tough. 28 reps? Wow. Quite a bar you’ve set there.
I have a long day at work today (in at 7 AM for a meeting, and then also have to meet with a couple of docs that can’t get here until at least 7:30 PM), but I’ve been given permission to come in a little late tomorrow as a result, so I may sleep in a bit and perform my test tomorrow. Man. 28 reps. Gonna take some real mental fortitude to grind out that many.
I’ve had pretty impressive DOMS following the challenge, particularly lower back, delts and triceps. The jerks clearly work the pushing muscles more than I thought. Today’s session was just a nice easy one to loosen me up and get some blood pumping.
