One key difference is that Big Pharma actually conducts research on the treatments that they sell to determine whether they are safe and effective; hucksters just shove together a bunch of gobbledygook, put it in a book, and launch their own line of supplements (an industry that is significantly less regulated than pharmaceuticals) to avoid the scrutiny of actually having to prove that their products are safe and effective.
