Functional Bombardment

Live…I feel for you. The last PT I worked with was a competitive strongman and had me doing farmer’s walks in the parking lot, Zerchers, lots of deads and other stuff that was a blast. He was very much go heavy or go home which is what I wanted. I loved training with him. When he left, I made them give me the rest of my money back because I wasn’t going to train with anyone else at the gym.

After reading about your training, I’m glad that’s what I did. I watch the other trainers with clients and they look bored out of their trees.

hope it was a nice gym, im paying $25 a month for my membership.
Decent gym, great ethic from the staff, but it just got crowded with the “general fitness” types.

Two weeks? What kind of course were you doing?
I think the standard for the fitness industry must be lower in America cause in Australia your looking at 12 months, or 6 if you do one of the private ‘intense’ courses.

Also how do you become a PT and still have to look up on youtube to find out wat a clean and press is?!!! or did I read that part of the thread wrong?

You don’t have to be an oly coast to put some oly lifts in your programs for clients (obviously I’m not talking about advanced lifters or doing max weights).

On the flipside, why is a straight deadlift more “functional?” I’m assuming they’re going to transition from a deadlift position into an overhead press, while standing.
Your avatar scared the fucking shit out of me and I keep checking my back every few seconds now.

im not certified yet, they hired me without certification and i have 90 days to get it. they wouldnt teach you what a clean and press was in a certification course anyway.

yea so this is all over with, i got fired today.

i showed up wearing sandals because i was under the impression that we were done doing physical activites since thats what i was told and apparently we werent.

im also not the only person who got fired just from these things, some other kid laughed during something and he got sent home too. that place is a joke. now its off to find some other b.s. job, i actually thought that was gonna be a long term thing with them too but owell.

omg…thats the whole point. there doesnt need to be a transition. those two movements dont even need to be trained together period ( i edited my post and added another paragraph)

you want functional shoulders? train you shoulders

you want functional back? train your back

you want functional legs? you guess it train them.

if you want to be good at taking a ball and lifting it to the side then lift do that. all youll do with that is improve that single movement whereas through training muscle directly you make those muscles stronger for any task that requires them. therefore, fuck functional training.
you don’t understand anything besides how you view training in your head. If someone is getting his masters in this industry, and has several certifications, his/her knowledge base is greater, and it also shows that they are open to new sources of information in the industry. I will, however, say that certifications have no bearing on one’s ability to train.

Also, part of this isn’t your fault. It’s true, functional training has been misused time and time again…Mainly because people have a poor understanding of the body and it’s true, integrative function. They get their understanding from youtube videos titled, “functional training.”

Be careful when making statements about what’s right and wrong if you truly have no understanding on why “functional training” is wrong and your style is right due to “common sense” and experience.

care to enlighten me oh wise one?

You are a gem. Thank you. This absolutely, 100% made me lol.

Please tell me you make all this stuff up. Please.

You’re either a complete ass or the best troll ever.

I agree with normanut. Getting a Masters is not necessary to become successful, as well as having numerous certifications. I have seen plenty of PT’s who do well because they look good, know how to market themselves, yet don’t know dick about proper training. I saw a PT train a guy who played soccer in his free time doing some really lame shit. In my mind, I knew this guy was going to get hurt, and wouldn’t you know, he did.

Because of the ridiculous shit he was doing on a Bosu Ball, he screwed up his back falling off the Bosu Ball with weights in his hands. The trainer looked at him while he was on the ground as if it was his fault that he lost his balance. Be your own trainer and use some common sense. Why you stayed as long as you did is beyond me.
