I’ve got another week of 3 chiro appointments, then we’ll re-evaluate things. While it’s nice to feel a bit better, I don’t want to be married to the guy …

Ha! Yeah, the chiro’s eyes sort of glaze over when he asks what I’ve been doing and I tell him about sparring in Muay Thai or rolling in bjj. I think he’s either totally turned on by the thought or he thinks I’m going to be a indefinite source of income. Not sure which.

Maybe both?

My vote is that he is turned on by the thought that you are going to be a permanent source of income …
MT:
Kicking, kicking, more kicking. Head kicks, switch kicks, leg kicks, multiple fire kicks. My calves are going to be fried tomorrow and Wed.
Lift: Chest, shoulders, back, abs
Tuesday, Nov 25:
BJJ:
Escapes from triangle chokes. Four major versions and several tweaks on each to accomplish different things (Besides the escape)
Elliptical intervals 30 min.
Stretch
Wed, Nov 26:
MT: conditioning drills. Sparring. Damn, I love sparring!
BJJ: Drilled passing the guard, passing butterfly guard and a couple other basics. Rolled a few rounds.
Lift: Arms, legs, abs. Right bicep tie-in hurts too much to do more than a few sets of arms. Don’t have a clue why, but I’ve been feeling it when doing barn chores and wondered when it was going to finally cramp my style. Was able to do full triceps though.
Right scapula is having a major hissy fit. It’s always the exact same spot that knots up. I wish like hell I knew what I’m doing that causes this to happen every few weeks 'cause it’s getting to be a real pain in the ass to put up with.
No more classes this week … everything is closed down. Might lift again, do some cardio and/or hit the bag, but basically I’m going to take it easy and enjoy the break.
Now, I think there’s a cocktail (or three) with my name on it …

Have a happy!

Have you tried rolling it with a tennis ball? I sometimes need a golf ball to get to that exact spot (just gotta watch the pressure level).

Thanks, Sol!
To answer your question, yes, I’ve done quite a bit of trigger point in this specific area. It does seem help to relieve the pain temporarily, but so far it hasn’t resolved it. I tend to think I’m doing some sort of repetitive motion that’s re-irritating it on a frequent basis. I’ve actually been hampered with this little bugger for about 10 years. It’s nothing major, meaning that it’s usually better in a day or two, but it really hurts over that short span of time. I get that ‘pulled muscle’ ache from the shoulder blade up into my neck, which usually triggers a headache … not to mention a bit of overall grumpiness.
Tarje made the Olympics and beat the favored Japanese competitor in the first round.
The video is one of his training sessions, and it includes a link to an explanation of the details of the guard pass he is using where Rhadi explains the difference between BJJ and Judo and some nuances.
Haven’t felt like posting. I limped my way through neck and thoracic treatment and rehab and regained a fairly decent ROM. (Yay!) I was ready to start rolling in bjj and first day back, got my right knee trashed and jammed the crap out of a toe on my left foot.
From that point on walking was comic and training was almost futile. (Boo!)
Took it easy for a day or two. Once I felt better I pushed on, but I’ve had to be a bit creative. The knee needed 48 hours of ice and rest. The toe is black, swollen and taped. This too shall pass.
Muay Thai has been mostly drills and little sparring. I suspect that will change tomorrow. I’ve had to pick and choose in bjj. Seems like I can’t do anything there without risking something. Still, enjoyed learning a bunch of new stuff and drilling. Rolling will have to wait another day or two and I should be good to go.
Lifting has been OK. Conditioning … had to cut the knee and toe some slack. I’ve been doing elliptical intervals, incline treadmill and some heavy bag work. I jumped rope tonight for the first time since I jacked the knee and it went OK, so I should be back on track for next week. Damn, I sure feel like I dodged a bullet there!
Thanks guys … been there on more than just a personal level.
OK, so I haven’t been posting much. That’s not to say anything has really changed. The neck/upper back issue is doing MUCH better. For awhile there it was two steps forward, three steps back, but I think I’m mostly moving forward now. My neck ROM has improved greatly (Yay!) and my upper back isn’t nearly as locked as it was. The toe is 85-90% better and the knee is back to normal.
It’s kind of freaky to actually be able to turn my head from side to side like a normal person. It’s been so long, I almost forgot what that’s like!
Both MA schools have had holiday closings that overlap somewhat. I also had to miss 2 classes due to heavy snow storms. I have a MT class tomorrow morning, then I think the classes are off again until I can do BJJ on Friday. I’ve been lifting, hitting the bag, jumping rope and doing my regular conditioning all along, so nothing’s slacking. I’m looking forward to getting back into my regular class routine after next weekend, weather pending. Damn winter.
Speaking of which, snow is a workout in itself. Winter on a farm means lots of extra work. Heavy work. I’ll try not to whine about it … but bringing in a load of hay during the last storm really kinda sucked!
Hit the gym early today. Arms and legs. Lots of people pounding the cardio deck. Guilt? Damn glad I don’t have that issue here!
Had a nice 1.5 hr massage, then a few hours later hit the treadmill for an hour incline power walk. I can already tell my legs are going to be screaming for tomorrow’s MT class. Sheesh …
Good to hear from you Cappy. Overcoming the neck issue is great to hear. Did you have to put the chiro on the Christmas list? Or has he moved up into the will?
