its pointless cooking with olive oil at a high heat anyway, it just evaporates
it doesn’t evaporate or nor is it “poisonous” per se. It does however oxidize which can be harmful to the body.
evaporates I say! if you add mushrooms that is.

Care to elaborate?

Adding muscle and losing fat while off AAS for a fair bit of time now.

5+g leucine per day, around the workout usually.

2-3 spoonfulls of VCO.

Obviously the rest of my diet is pretty good.
Maybe a really stupid question, if so, sorry.

I know leucine is apparently relatively high in eggs and stuff like that. Is supplementing 5g of leucine pre-workout, different then let’s say, eating 4 organic eggs pre-workout??
I dont know.
Don’t quote me on it, but I believe I’ve seen BBB or Modok say something about there being a benefit to getting leucine seperate from other amino acids, because of them competing for absorption or something.

That was in context of leucine v BCAA’s, but I assume it would apply even more to whole foods.

This summer, I went to Italy (my mother is Italian) and while there, I noticed my grandmother and aunt used olive oil exclusively for frying. They never smoked the oil, they just kept the heat low and used some old-world, small-village patience to get it done.

I noticed a lot of threads here are about consuming it raw, but I’m wondering - if you fry using olive oil, without smoking it, is it still a nutritious oil?

Right now I’m frying my eggs with PAM cooking spray (4 calories per shot), I figure the yolk has enough fat for me. I’m wondering though, if I used olive oil once in awhile, would the extra cals be worth the benefit.
THEY ARE CORRECT…YOU DO NO USE OLIVE OIL FOR HIGH HEAT. But its great to use along with Coconut oil. All nut oils really are awesome. Why use PAM its not even real?

everyone i know uses it for frying…
and i’ve done so since forever, too…
i’m trying to track down some coconut oil - but it is hard to find decent stuff in my parts (first lot i got turned out to be rancid). not cheap, either.
Then use clarified butter.

You can make clarified butter AKA ghee out of regular butter very easily. Look it up, my parents do it all the time.

It also has a high smoke point.
Ghee is awesome but I use it sparingly. I love coconut oil though.

not real as in what, not extra virgin? maybe the quality sucks but it is real oil in an aersol can

mushrooms absorb a lot of liquid. eggplant, too.

Hey BONEZ, a question about VCO. I’m interested in it for its health benefits, but I rarely cook with oil.

Taste-wise, would you be able to down a spoonful or two of it on its own? I’m not expecting it to taste good, I’m just wondering if it would make you want to puke or not.

Thanks

Thanks, I will give it a try

Bonez, tried some extra virgin coco oil just now. Definitely added a cool flavor to the eggs.

I finally got around to buying a jar of VCO. 26 bucks, not cheap…but this stuff tastes amazing. I added it to a shake and it gives it a nice, rich flavour. I unfortunately wound up spitting some on my crotch though due to watching Stern’s RogueVampire parody video.

Depends on how hard you want to fry. The smoke point for olive oil is not that high, but for light frying you should be ok. For hard grilling of chicken etc. I would go with butter instead. You can find a list of the different smoke points here: Smoke point - Wikipedia

You should be able to find Organic Extra Virgin Coconut oil for about $6 a pound on the internet. I dont know how big your jar is but that’s a lot of money.

Stop buying your coconut oil from Loblaws.

LOL Thanks. I did the same thing… A $23 jar.

Mine was a 710ml jar from “Goodness Me” (Organic store similar to Whole Foods). Unless I’m missing something, not a lot of the Canadian online prices for VCO are that much better.

<EDIT: I scrolled down and saw that Nutiva is cheaper…any experience with this?>

regular olive oil is can be used for frying… Depends if your doing high heat frying, as opposed to ster (sp?) frying. Olive oil is a monounsaturated oil, so I think it would be better for health take ( by capsule form) omega three oil, or if your against that try some cold water fish… Sardines are an excellent choice, i can’t stand them, so I stick to salmon.
But NEVER USE OMEGA THREE OILS FOR COOKING, DO NOT HEAT THEM.

No I bought this:

http://rawnutrition.ca/html/raw_organic_coconut_oil.html

The one at the very bottom - ultimate superfoods

It’s great. I plan to try out Nutiva next but right now I have to get through the 3 gallons I bought.

Even if you buy the ultimate superfoods you’re still paying way less.

$0.0198/ml vs $0.0366/ml

Multiply that out in large quantities and the difference is huge.

Honestly, I would guess that any product labeled as unrefined organic will be fine, just go for the cheapest. Many people on here use different brands and no one has had a problem…Except one girl out of New Zealand who was shipped some expired stuff.

I would recommend you call the company and ask them what the expiry date on the product is before you purchase.
