I just finished reading chads new article and really liked the idea of putting broccolli in the shake. It would make it so much easier to get more vegetables during the day. I buy organic frozen broccolli and was wondering if I could through in the broccolli frozen and blend it up and drink it. I guess this seems like a stupid question but I didnt know if the nutrients are less absorbed in the body if its frozen. I figured it might be a excellent and easy way to eat it. I would do something like this:
pro powder
raw broccolli(frozen)
Red apple(fresh)
Strawberries(frozen)
udo’s choice or regular flax
Water
Mayeb some other shit as well but basically what I sm wondering is if fruits and vegetables are ok to eat frozen and if we get the full benefits from it. Thanks
Hey thanks for answering. Ya I think it depends on a couple different things, but what I am wondering is if consuming frozen vegetables or fruits frozen will it lesson its antioxidant value? Thanks

Yes, use your organic frozen vegetables. Your body will absorb it just fine… it doesn’t stay frozen you know
I make a shake every morning with 1 cup frozen broccoli, 1 cup oats, 1 cup frozen berries.

Thanks ya I think all this thinking leads to worrying about the smallest of details. If I could just understand that the most basic of things done consistently would be better than finding the “perfect” diet, workout, etc… Thanks
Eating them frozen isn’t going to reduce anything… it’s generally the cooking or boiling that either makes changes or leeches nutrients. If it wasn’t a food you were normally able to eat raw you might have to think about it.
So, does this mask the taste of the vegetables or does the drink end up tasting like crap anyway?
“Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studied the effects of processing on vegetables. According to Barbara Klein, the principal investigator, when vegetables are frozen the nutrients are ‘locked in.’ Although the processing results in a small loss of nutrients, Dr. Klein said ?the effects are the same as what happens to a fresh vegetable when you cook it.? Following the processing, there is no further loss of nutrients.”
Also, the longer fresh vegetables sit the greater their loss of nutrients.

Vroom thanks for the response. Let me tell you something brother…this is the best f’n idea there is. I cant believe I didnt think of it because its so simple and the best part I shit you not is I cant even taste the broccolli. Not even a little bit. Like I didnt even put it in. I just had a chocolate protein( jay robb), blueberry( 1cup frozen), and broccolli ( 1 1/2 cups frozen) shake and didnt taste the broccolli at all. Its amazing. To think all the time I could have been getting so many more vegetables and nutrients just by blending them into a shake.
I tried blueberry because I ran out of apples, strawberries, etc…etc…but the tase is the same with those fruits as well. I think I didnt try it before because it sounds revolting and you would never guess that it would be tolerable. So lie I said try it out and to me it makes things alot easier. I hope everything gets absorbed because it seems to good to be true there has to be something wrong with it…lol

Great idea and it doesn’t taste bad either.
I just did a scoop of Protein Powder
10 oz water and half cup of broccoli
was kind of grainy but taste great!!!
Yes it def is a good idea but unfort. it wasnt my idea. I read Chad waterburys article and that is where I got it from. So I am glad you tried it and if you add fruit to that I will tell you that you wont taste it at all. Anyways I will def keep doing this.
This is a great idea, i already add fresh spinash to my shakes. It seems easer to hide the flavor of spinash than broccoli, remember Banana is your friend here lol…
The spinash bag says its triple washed, so i think its ok to eat it raw.
But, what about frozen broccoli from waltmart? Its says premium quality, etc. but you think its safe to add it raw to the blender without cooking or washing it?

How’s that Jay Robb protein? Kinda pricey insn’t it?
I tried blending broccoli by itself once. I got sick of eating it and I thought 'Whatever I’ll just slam it." I’ll just advise you not to do that. I can choke a lot of stuff down and that wasn’t the easiest to get down. i think cause of the texture. I guess a thicker overall texture (protein, oats) would be easier on the palate?

Well shit, I’ve got a nice blender with a shitload of buttons on it gathering dust. I guess I’m going to have to hit the frozen food isle and give this a shot myself.

Ya Jay robb is but i wanted to see what it tasted like. Its pretty good but I am wondering how Metabolic Drive tastes. Let me know if you have tasted it because I might go with that instead because of it being a blend and lend itself more to being a meal replacement.
Ya that sounds like it would be bad but like I said there is something to the frozen broccolli that makes it easy to go down along with the mix of fruit of course. Then again I didnt even taste the broccolli so if you wanted you could go as far to just have pro shake and broccolli. Shit I keep adding so much stuff that its filling up the whole blender…lol
tassie wrote:
what other vegetables has anyone tried? i have broccoli and spinach in other meals, so what else would go well with shakes?
You could probably get away with frozen carrots and even cauliflower probably. Obviously any fruit would work, and pretty much any vegetable would as well. Although I wouldnt try garlic or onions…gross

I throw 1/4 bag of spinach, 1 tomato, and a bit of water in the magic bullet. It’s real thick. My wife gags when she sees me drink it.
I’m not gonna lie to you. It doesn’t taste good at all.

Try this out bro I promise if you do it right which shouldnt be hard you wont taste the vegetables. What you tried does sound gross

Seriously try it out. It makes everything alot easier for me. This is my new version:
(all fruits and vegetables are organic)
2 scoops of chocolate whey ( jayy robb )
1 cup of frozen broccolli
1 cup of frozen spinach
1 fresh apple sliced off the core
1 serv of frozen strawberries ( a few )
1/2 serv of frozen pinnaple ( a couple small chunks, not much )
1 tbsp of udos choice or flax
1 serv of New chapters Berry Green (1Tbsp) (green drink)
some cold water if needed
I have been doing this 2x a day for a couple days and love it. Obviously I have other whole meals as well but this makes things alot easier on me as far as getting all my nutrient/antioxidants everyday goes. Like I posted above I would like to try Metabolic Drive out and if its good use that as a replacement for gay robbs protein. Anyone who uses Metabolic Drive let me know how it tastes and what you think of it as a whole.
