French & German Anti-U.S. Textbook

Er, excuse me, buddy – but we saved their European backsides 60 years ago, remember? Remember a little “conflict” called WWII???

Without US – America – they would all be speaking German, hailing Hitler, and eating Schnitzel every day. The Europeans are simply ungrateful, forgetful, and full of themselves. They need our protection and trade, but hate us none-the-less. Our fault – I think not!

It is called the “Free Market.” If they like our entertainment, food, etc, they will buy it and so others will produce it. It is something called Capitalism – another aspect of our country that you love to hate.

Oh, poor Euro babies… Wah, Wah , Wah…Again, you always blame America first!

All of this hurts their pride, so you can’t blame them for being a little pissed off.

Yeah right – not in your lifetime. I think we should have a “U.S. Boycott Europe Day.” Hey, if the illegals can do it, we should. That might teach those on the other side of “The Pond” what we really mean to them.

That said – stop hating your country and blaming us for every evil and other nations’ hate toward us. Start loving your Country!

Well if they read this post, I’m fairly sure the Germans will agree to a revised edition of the pamphlet that includes all of France’s originally proposed anti-US sentiment.

Unbelievable.

Point being? If I had to appeal to my tough younger brother’s vanity to help me out in a fight I would too.

Hey no-one in Europe denies the US’ contribution to the war. What they do take major issue with is the strange and common assertion that they did it practically single-handedly while everyone else on Earth was flapping about waiting to be rescued. Hollywood has a lot to answer for.

Cultural differences aside, please tell me what you personally have sacrificed in WW2? What have YOU done to save Europe from the nazi’s? If you were born decades later, what right do you have to ride the coattails of those who truely gave their lifes for freedom? What have you achieved except for simply being born into an american family? Why do you think you can claim any pride and gratitude for something you were never part of?

Classic “Blame America First” retort of a true, U.S. hating American! Great…

We’ve slowly assimilating Europe for the past 60 years;

Not really true. You’re a teacher, so if you’re doing World War II with your students, be sure to tell them the Russians did the majority of the fighting (and the vast majority of the dying) against the Wehrmacht. About 2/3 of Germany’s troops, including most of the best SS units, were on the Eastern Front - there was a reason the French coast was so badly defended. The Russians won World War II far more than we or the British did. Now, if you want to argue that America saved Europe from communism, that’s a whole other matter…

This stance ignores the amount of aid the US’ Lend-Lease Act provided to Russia to fight on the front. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $11 billion - over $135 billion in modern dollars - went to Russia under Lend-Lease. A significant percentage of US aid was non-military assets - GMC trucks became famous for it - because Russia had so much of them decimated in the early part of the war.

Do I think Russia gave the Nazis hell on the Eastern front and deserve a ton of credit? Yes. Would they have done it without the help of the US and Lend-Lease? No.

Just as an aside.

It was rather 8-9/10 than 2/3. But most people in the states i discussed this matter with were hardly aware that there was an eastern front at all. Cant stand anymore of the “europehastokissorassesbecauseofd-day” bs, after all the russians had 13 million soliders kia in that war against germany alone.

Americans for sure dont have to much of a right to bitch about other countrys education systems.

That’s a very good point, and British aid to the Soviets was not insignificant either. I think it might be an overstatement to say that Russia would not have defeated the Germans without Allied aid though.

Dude - How in the hell can that be ‘misread’? Kids like you watch their friends join up and then you pretend you are a man because you have a friend with balls…

You have no right thanking me for any fucking support.

I think when you decide to start using the word dick, you should look in the mirror so that you will know exactly what one looks like.

Vanity? Vanity…How do I respond to that? Restoring democracy to Europe was because of Vanity…

I never realized that thousands upon thousands of our people died due to vanity.

We have a term on this site called ‘Tube Steak Boogie’.

He has to look in the mirror. He’d certainly not see one by looking down.

I capitalized the wrong word, dude - I apoligise, it was not my intent to mislead.

the way that sentence SHOULD have read is, “actually it’s people LIKE me who join the marines…”

and being in the NFL is NOT serving the country.

I’m aware of it - not quite sure why it’s relevant here. And I’m saying that if I needed someone’s help in a fight I would say whatever was needed to get them to help. What the the point of the original posting of that quote?

Wow, I see the retards are out in full array with their caricaturization, labelling and demonization.

Do you clowns realize you are an embarrassment to the MAJORITY? I mean, a meathead board like this isn’t the place to find the opinions of the majority, unless you are referring to a majority of ignorant rednecks.

Well said that man. Every stereotype the rest of the world has of the US has been given credence by some of the posts I’ve read on here.

Ah well… Here’s looking forward to the rise of the Chinese empire. At least they make cheap consumer electronics. lol

Here’s a riddle vroom:
When individuals on the forums do it, it’s wrong and low-brow. When Europe’s leaders do it, it’s inciteful and thinking critically. When geniuses like you and a British TV producer do it, it’s ‘justified’. What is it?

Okay… Whatever. I don’t want to play anymore. I’m sure it’s a really wittty and INSIGHTFUL punchline you’ve got coming up but I have no wish to trade one-liners and argue semantics with some anonymous fella on a weightlifting site. I made my points about some views towards Europe which I felt were ignorant and many other people agreed with them.

You and several others didn’t, as is your perogative. Fair play to you, though I find it bizarre in the extreme that some people seem to take any criticism of their government as a personal attack.

Anyway… As there are no consequences to extended e-insulting and forum name-calling, it has a tendancy so drag on way past the point when it becomes tedious. I think we’ve reached that point.

Perhaps in future we should confine our conversation to the science of repeatedly picking up and putting down heavy objects in a effort to improve ourselves in some respect - as it looks like we will never achieve this aforementioned state when discussing anything else. Hopefully political ideologies won’t intefere with the conversation so much then.

Have a nice day and I’ll maybe see you all in a weightlifting thread some time. Or next time we need rescuing from the clutches of a small Austrian.

How about family members who perished in the Holocaust! Is THAT enough of a sacrifice for you?

What I am speaking about is called Common Heritage – and I can be very proud of my country’s saving of freedom for Europe in WWII. America saved the world – of that there is no doubt. The problem is that there has been relative peace in Europe for so long, that they have forgotton what we have meant to them. As I have stated, and will state again. They love our money, but hate us.

Go figure…

I don’t need wit and insight[/quote]

That’s debatable.

I find it bizarre in the extreme that two national leaders take the time out of their day to write a school textbook which may or may not get adopted that deliberately tries to slant history. It’s even more bizarre that when Americans are appalled and/or guffaw at the idea, they get stereotyped as ignorant rednecks.

I agree, that line for this thread was crossed at 3:44pm on 05/08/06.

I dunno, I’ve heard some pretty good arguments in favor of functional training.

Or the next time you need help clarifying whether the US and USSR were moral equivalents maybe?

Sure, you can be proud of anything, but without having contributed to the actual war, it’s hollow at the very least. You yourself have sacrificed nothing, but pat yourself on the back anyway. That’s… worthless…
