For Those Who Don't Know....

Wow! I’m shocked at the attitude of some of you guys. Seriously, if you don’t like an idea why waste time commenting on it. Just go eat some protein or something.

Its attitudes like this why you get thousands of boring ass post’s about some pre-teen trying to lean up their 130lb frame to show off their wicked ‘abz’.

Wait…in your mind, the fact that we openly don’t like blatant mental-masturbatory posts that serve no purpose but to fill up space that THIS is why 130lbs skinny dudes make posts about abs???

On the contrary. I have a feeling that the reason this forum isn’t filled to the brim with dumbass posts is because we openly speak out against them. The guys doing the flaming on this forum may very well be all that keeps this place from turning into bb.com part deux.

I can see your point. But surely there should be a balance. I’ve seen several forums turn into nothing more than a bunch of ‘veterans’ dishing out a one dimensional view on things. Anyone who dares to voice a different opinion is met with a nasty attitude and promtly leaves along with any interesting perspectives they may have.

The main thing that keeps me coming back to T-Nation is that there’s often a new eye-opening idea or viewpoint that I hadn’t previously considered. It would be a crying shame if that was quashed.

Wasn’t this orginally launched as “Bodybuildings’ think tank”?

Hi there! Long time lurker, first time poster.

Shut up testup

Yeah, and the problem with allowing every possible jackass to go on and on about their wonderful point of view is that it very easily gets lost that the entire fucking goal is PROGRESS.

You will see many people go on about how this or that WORKED for them…but then they post a picture and they don’t even look like they lift.

It is like people have forgotten that the goal is to build that muscle mass, not to sit around like old ladies and talk about what MAY be possible.

I think most of the extremely developed people here are also in the T-Cell, and while we may differ on the exact approach, nearly every fucker who has a lot of size on them seems to adhere to the same basics of training.

How is it this is glossed over as if the moral of this story isn’t so loud and evident that you need ear plugs?

Best first post ever. You have a future here.

Just throwing this out there prof. I haven’t spent 29896 posts talking like an ‘old lady’ as you put it on these forums. :stuck_out_tongue:

Obviously progress is what’s got us all here in the first place. But some of us also like discussing how the body works and how it could possibly respond to certain stimulus. Granted this should probably be discussed from a theoretical stand point.

Maybe i’m just a little too optimistic. But i’ve tried some weird and wacky things in my time training and some of it has given me the best gains i’ve ever had.

…and “the best gains I’ve ever had” is irrelevant unless those gains made you get muscles big enough to impress people.

Every other skinny guy here has gotten “the best gains they ever had”…and most are still small.

This forum will be making huge progress when people start paying attention to what actually works instead of listening to people who are all talk.

In the end, bodybuilding, and bodybuilding training philosophy, revolves around results. Only things that bring results, have been proven to bring results, and things that are based on these methods, are relevant for discussion.

I’m glad you agree…so why are so many newbs and skinny dudes the main ones talking?

This is why we ask for pictures and why the development of the poster DOES matter.

Normally I would poop on this thread but I thought I would give my 2 cents instead this time. I believe that the rep/set schemes that work best are the ones that have been tried and true over the years and PROVEN to work. If 3x25 worked best then most likely everybody would be doing 75 reps per exercise. Instead we see a lot of 5x5, 3x6, 4x6, 3x10,1x20, etc. Seems 20-30 reps is the number that has worked for people over the last 100 years. I’m sure the “ultra volume” methods have been tried by many of people as well but abandoned because they didn’t work as well as the others. That’s why everyone is calling it bullshit.

This is not really a correct assumption. You cant just assume that what everyone is doing is what is best, especially when there is so much variation in what peole are doing. I would say that the “average” person in the gym is probbly training with about 8-12 reps. So you could say that this is “optimal” but these people are also using questionable form, crap weight, hitting like 5-7 sets, and pretty much hit bench 3x a week, as well as shoulders and biceps, and maybe hit their legs 1x per month.

But like I said there is a huge variation in what people are doing, and what works. There ARE people doing sets of 1-3 that are getting results, and there are people doing sets of 20+ getting results. The problem is that there are a ton of individual differnces that affect the results, so what works well for someone else, or even the average person might not work for you. There needs to be discussion on this type of thing, even if the proffessor x’s of the worlds dont want to talk about it. Thats fine they are the ones that we dont want talking about it.

But also, its important to understand the principles that will work for everyone.

Increase your strength, regardless of the rep range you use, and you can pretty much count on being bigger, IF you are eating in excess.
