How many of you have consistent training partners and how important do you think it is to have one?
I don’t know that I qualify for Big & Strong but…
I almost always train alone. And by alone I mean alone, by myself in an old factory.
Thank God for power racks with pins.
No one seems to be compatible with me neither philosophicaly nor schedule-wise.

Training with partners HELPED when I was around 200-220lbs. They helped me push my limits. By watching them bench 405lbs (as they were slightly stronger than me at the time), I was finally able to with them. I truly believe they helped break those mental boundaries.
At this point, no, I don’t have a training partner and don’t need one. I could use someone to help me unload plates, however.

I’ll unload your plates if you’ll lift weights for me so I can get strong sans effort.
I’ve been training with a partner for 6 monthes now, and being able to have someone competent to spot me helps a big deal.
I train in an old dungeon at odd times, and I don’t think I can train 100% seriously completely alone there. In a commercial gym where there is entertainment (read: girls & idiots to watch) I usually can workout alone with good intensity.
It’s a big help, but your training partner has to have the same sort of schedule and work ethic as you. Hard to find. Plus chances are they only last a few days or weeks before they give up. Luckily mine just shuts up and does as I say :).

Agreed. The most helpful a partner can be is to help you push beyond what your own mind can do for you. All it takes is a little encouragement. The problem lies when you are the stronger of the two though, as the weaker guy is less likely to help push you to be even stronger than he is. Jealousy is a carnal instinct.
LOL. Yes the job of “training assistant” would probably not pay well. It would be good GPP though.
i wish i could find a good training partner. being in high school ( a very small one) no one seems to have the same ideas that i have.
i used to have a couple of guys i trained with but eventually i started taking my training much more seriously and got a fair bit stronger then them. by no means am i a BAMF or anything like that but at least were i lift i am one of the strongest and it wouldnt make any sense for a 130# sophomore to jump in and bench with me.
