And Pushmepullme, it really is amazing lol. I’m going to make my grip obnoxiously wide when I get back to benching.
Is there any particular width grip that is illegal to exceed?[/quote]
From the USAPL rule book:
The spacing of the hands shall not exceed 81 cm measured between the forefingers (both forefingers must be within the 81 cm marks and the whole of the forefingers must be in contact with the 81 cm marks if maximum grip is used).
If in the case of some old injury or anatomically the lifter is unable to grip the bar equally with both hands he must inform the referees prior to lift-off for each attempt and if necessary the bar will be marked accordingly. The use of the reverse grip or thumbless grip is forbidden.
I listened to a man that coached Ben Johnson, among other gold medal olympic athletes, this weekend.
I listened to a throws coach that started to coach a 7th grader and got that same kid to bench press 465X2 by the time he was a sophomore in high school. Also watched videos of the monster throw.
I am weak as shit.
Besides relearning that fact, I learned a good deal about how the best in history had their training organized.
It was especially interesting to listen to the pseudo-science espoused by some of these uber-coaches.
Train hard, get results, and that speaks for itself.
Apparently lactic acid ‘melts’ the enzymes in your mitochondria.
I won’t even go there, though.
This week will be different than usual due to a conference I will be attending. I will combine lower 2 and upper 2 into a compounds only full body session. This will be performed on thursday and I’ll do my first two work outs as usual.
AM Weight: 206.8
I ate almost exclusively oatmeal, cashews, tuna, flaxseed, apples, and pears all weekend. I guess I ate too much oatmeal or the stress accumulated to uhhhh give me some extra. I won’t finish that sentence.
I just wanted to toss a few things I’ve realized on here:
-My open hand grip strength blows. My closed hand grip strength and crushing grip strength are both pretty decent. When I do RDLs with 275 and an open hand grip, come the sixth rep my grip is giving way. When I grasp the bar more towards the middle of my hand and hold it with the calluses on the distal end of what would be the metacarpals, I am able to hold the bar perfectly well and have much more left in me by the sixth rep.
–I’ll address this with open hand bar holds with 315.
—Reason I’m spending time on this is that an open hand grip=less ROM in deads from the ground.
-Unilateral Cook glute raises and bilateral glute raises with knee extension are fantastic for ironing out hip imbalances.
-Less breaths = more tightness = more strength = less eyeball in socket
Thanks, Vader. BTW, I saw Slipknot, Trivium, and Coheed and Cambria in concert and they were awesome. All of the bands had ridiculous energy and played some kickass songs.
