It seems like you’ve set up artificial parameters.

IF…by definition…anyone receiving Government assistance is a Liberal (unless they “really” need it…then they may or may not be Conservative)…then by default, there can only be Liberals getting some form of Government assistance.

I can’t agree with that.

In my Job (which is in a VERY red State, by the way…)…I run into a lot of People who feel that the President and Gays are the very definition of evil…and they are on Government Assistance because of lost jobs, lack of jobs, our stagnant economy, etc…

(But I guess they are still “Conservative” because they “really” need the assistance?)

Help me out here.

I don’t give a fuck about red states or blue states, rich states or poor states, north or south. I CAN speak from MY personal experience. I have NEVER in my life gotten unemployment, wellfare or food stamps. I have not recieved any charity from a church. I left home at sixteen and never looked back, so my parents have never been a safety net. I have been wildly successful and I have fallen on hard times. When I couldn’t find a job that met my income requirements HERE in Virginia, I packed my shit, drove 1200 miles (from the “north” to the “south”) and lived in a tent while I paid for my own certifications that enabled me to enter another industry where I had a complimentary skill set for. I knocked on doors until I found a job in a city where I knew NO ONE. I found a job, but I stayed in the tent. I later moved to a shack. I sent the money I earned home to feed my family and meet my responsibilities. I didn’t go bankrupt - in fact, I didn’t miss a single payment on any of my obligations. Nor did my children go hungry or want for anything. I consider MY SELF to be a fiscal conservative and that’s how we roll. THAT’S my definition.

If you live in a “red” state and are on wellfare, then I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t really care. But by MY standards, anyone sucking the gub’ment dick is NOT a conservative. And that includes farmers, the oil industry and all the other “entities” that want special treatment or free shit that comes out of the money the I’VE paid in taxes. Fuck them, they are not conservative. I LIVE MY VALUES.

I am also strongly supportive of many things that are considered to be a part of the “liberal” agenda. I really could not care less about what goes on behind closed doors between two consenting adults. I think if gay couples get married and their partner dies, then the estate tax will increase the gov’t coffers just like the rest of us. I think that ALL of us (with the exception of the third ruffian) are immigrants and/or decend from immigrants and that the concept of “illegal aliens” just robs us of the taxes they would pay if they had an ID number. Not to mention the billions we spend tracking them down and deporting them. Fuck that, tax them all, and shut down companies who employ people and don’t take taxes out of their pay checks. That would quickly solve the issue.

As for the “war on drugs”, don’t get me started. Fucking legalize it, and TAX IT. How many BILLIONS of dollars have we spent incarcerating people for years cuz the had an ounce of weed? Fuck that shit. I am ALL about giving people freedom, so long as they don’t tread on others. When they do, they are punshished. Simple.

If you eliminate wellfare, two things will happen: 1)they will become motivated and find work, or 2)they will starve, or try to rob someone and get shot - I’m fine with either outcome.

I’m a felon without a HS diploma. If I can find a job in a tough economy, ANYONE can. Anything less is just a lazy fucking excuse. You cannot convince me otherwise. I do NOT wish to subsidize LAZY. Let them starve, they will find motivation or their pathetic lazy genes will perish. That being said, if someone is making a step in the right direction, I will take a step toward them with a helping hand to bring them along. But all this entitlement shit has ruined our economy, an entire class of people, and our country.
Our experiences are very similar minus the felon stuff  only because I never got caught

The problem with your logic is if there are 10 jobs and 20 people looking the 10 best people will get the jobs . Then it will turn into a bidding war and and wages will plummet

I personally could buy cancelling out social programs , What I don’t understand is no one mentions that we are subsidizing tobacco , oil, coal and who knows what else and no one says a word ?

Angrychicken mentioned exactly that-the fact that subsidizing anything is bullshit.

Why is a bidding war a problem??? A bidding war reduces the cost of a good to its VALUE. If there are 10 plumbing jobs available and 20 people apply for them, then wages should be allowed to decrease to the lowest point 10 of those people will accept. If five of those 10 people are incompetent, then the company will have to hire five more plumbers at a wage acceptable to them. If five new employees are out-earning the original five that remain, then the five that have been there can leave if they want more money. If those five threaten to leave and the company still needs ten plumbers, then it will have to increase their wages to keep them.

So you should have been shot or starved according to your logic. You also got a second chance courtesy of the govt and taxpayers. WE subsidized your existence in prison and paid for your job training. YOU benefited from entitlements as well. YOU were a drain on the system and a waste of public funds if we factor in the cost to taxpayers to arrest, convict and incarcerate you. YOU got more than a helping hand; you found a safety net.
Shot and starved? If I had been shot during the events that led to my arrest, I would have had no one to blame but myself. Fortunately for me, I was not shot. But starved? Not exactly sure how you got to that. Being in prison and being a ward of the state against my will IS NOT the same thing as being free and lazy and getting a government hand out. Logic fail. I broke the law 20 years ago and did my fucking time. I have written several dissertations here about it and NOTHING I have written contradicts my opinion of people on perpetual welfare. And how exactly did I find a safety net? I was stabbed five times - that’s not exactly safe…

OBVIOUSLY, if you are in prison then you have to be fed by the State. It is a drain on tax dollars. The whole correctional/justice system is an inefficient drain on tax dollars. I paid thousands of dollars in court costs and fines. I paid supervision fees while I was on parole and probation. The manual labor I did whle incarcerated and the taxes I’ve paid since I got out have MORE than paid for my little “vacation” from society. Several times over, in fact - I’m willing to bet I’ve paid more taxes in my life than YOU have.

And incarcerated people was not even part of this duscussion, so what exactly is your point other than to troll me? Do you think that since I broke the law 20 years ago and paid my dues that I’m unable to contribute an opinion to a discussion that I’m EMINENTY qualified to weigh in on? What constructive comment do YOU have to add to this discussion other than to distract people with your obvious ignorance?

Again, we have another fine example of a “keyboard warrior”. Little boys making clever snipes that they would NEVER say to a person’s face. Bravo.

Zec and Sev are experts on telling you why it’s ok to break the law and that we should subsidize all the crazy that leech off our country.

(YOU RAYCESSSSS)

And yet, if you met them in a bar they would not have SHIT to say to your face.

Entitlement central.

You wouldn’t believe the number of people that I see not washing their hands after using the restroom in public places.

You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

Do you have any idea how many people get paid from an arrest and conviction ? Between cops, bailiffs, judges, parole/probation officers, correctional officers, drug rehab people, US Marshals, and jail/prison officials ?

The savings from inmates doing back breaking manual labor, in damn near illegal heat, for no more than 12 cents an hour ?

By the same token, I wonder how many border patrol and INS jobs would be lost, not to mention farm profits, if the illegal immigrant problem were ever “solved”.

Right Nancy Reagan was lambasted for a Just Say No drug campaign.

But no one said squat when Jessie Jackson and his Up With Hope Down With Dope came out. Out With Dope in With Hope.

He also said “You cant vote against healthcare and call yourself a black man.”

…I heard she said go to bed early too

Here was a culture shock for me coming to Japan. There is no soap to wash your hands in the public bathrooms (at least the few I’ve been in). Maybe that’s why Japanese prefer to bow instead of shake hands in greeting.

And yes, I know, its sad that folks don’t wash their hands after using the facilities. Then have no problem using public items and interacting with others. Makes you think twice about putting your hands anywhere near your face or privates, eh?

Jackson was not the First Lady. Also, the Just Say No campaign was created at the expense of drug treatment clinics, which were started under Nixon btw, which actually worked at getting people clean. Not coincidentally the heroin trade skyrocketed when Just Say No was implemented and the clinics were closed. I don’t think suggesting people drink water will have a similar effect. You need to try harder nanny.

A lot of people won’t remember due to being so young  but the end of the Carter admin. was almost verbatim of today in RE: to Marijuana legalization . A couple had decrimed it and as I recall it was legal in AK and OR

Oh I forgot Wikiapedia is not legal on this board
