I confess that I REALLY want to drop this into a different thread but for the sake of my sanity, I am putting it here instead.

Yeah, definitely a Pyrrhic victory ahead on that one. Iāve learned to just not engage.
And itās so funny how the human brain stupidly works. People will see that list and think āOh cool: I can just fill up on these things without consequence!ā Not realizing the consequence is the eating habits we develop the pursuit of constantly fullness vs satiety.
This was what I saw with the whole big volume eating trend a couple years ago (Like the anabolic diet from Greg Doucette. Huge on Youtube). Like yeah having a low calorie and large amount of āAnabolic French toastā is cool but do you need to eat that so much to need a low calorie alternative?
It also amazed me how eating for volume is a great idea for bodybuilding prep but eating for satiety with real foods is what humans are supposed to do and no one wanted to market that
In turn, Erik the Electric took this to itās most logical conclusion and I love him for doing so
If youāve ever seen this man eat before, the fact this challenge broke him is a testament to the damage of this Frankenfood.
but eating for satiety with real foods is what humans are supposed to do and no one wanted to market that
I think you may be forgetting the whole āPaleoā craze we had in the late aughts, which got us WONDERFUL junk like this
As soon as there is a way to eat, SOMEONE will find a way to market it and break it.
Iāve watched him before! Going to have to check this one out
Yeah thatās fair lol
For some reason, this made me think of Mark Bells Carnivore Keto Brick flavor. Ever since I saw it on your log, itās intrigued me
Yeah, thatās definitely a noodlescratcher, haha. Robert Sikes is legit: he markets himself as āThe Keto Savageā and his brick is a ketogenic food product. Itās made with great ingredients, absolutely, but it will always be A processed food: just not an ultra-processed food. Mark, meanwhile, co-opts the term āCarnivoreā, and needs to give it the same asterisk we attach to squat records set in the WPO.
I had a girlfriend that was totally into Atkins. Not ketogenic dieting per se, but if it had that Atkins label, strikingly similar to that Paleo logo- sheād buy it.
Even unpeeled?
Iāve had to cook for a few clients who had eating disorders, and these were always part of their diet. Oddly enough, using different parts of the same plant was a successful strategy to increase calories.
Iād like to preface this post with the fact that I am not a psychologist, and most of the info relates to clients who were struggling with anorexia/orthorexia. Bulimia is something different.
1.) Iceburg - A wedge salad with two dressings, they pick the toppings so they feel safe, then an initial vinaigrette (which looks clear, but is full of good fats and looks neutral.) Followed by the toppings that they get to choose, then a second sauce that is very visual, so they forget abut the first one. Psychologically controlling food helps people with things they canāt control, so the illusion of control is helpful.
2.) I love cucumbers, and they are really useful as a way to introduce smaller higher-calorie toppings while not feeling guilty. Cucumber juice shots also help when the client gets worried about too many calories. Boom, you just had 700 cals of fat and protein that arenāt going to react with the rest of the meal and make you āfeelā fat, and in the morning youāll suprisingly feel better.
3.) Celery - This is my second favorite vegetable, but since itās considered a safe food, introducing celery root (jammed with butter and heavy cream,) with a light leaves and seeds topping has been a very successful starter.
I really want dieticians and chefs to collaborate more.
cucumbers are one of my favourite veggies. It doesnāt have much nutritient value BUT⦠theyāre a great vehicle for other stuff I like (e.g., smoked salmon), they donāt bother my gut and theyāre my second favourite pickle type (daikon is the best, but I run into digestive issues)
Theyāre great for fiber and their water content but just not a wealth of vitamins and minerals. Definitely much better than chips though! They make a great low calorie snack - donāt count them out, just donāt expect to be getting all your vitamins and minerals in.
I love everything about this post. And Iām down for collaboration anytime - seriously!
Game on.
I confess that I think my co-workers are testing me.
Dude comes up to me, finishing a snack and says āMy wife makes these āenergy ballsā each week. Theyāre made of stuff like granola, peanut butter, flax seeds, chia seeds, raisins, all good stuff. ā¦this particular batch didnāt turn out well. Itās not enjoyable.ā
Weāre office drones. We donāt have any NEED for extra energy. Weāre not hiking in the mountains. Iād argue that the vast majority of Americans arenāt lacking in nutritional energy. Weāre most likely in an energy surplus while in a nutrient deficiency.
So WHY is this dude eating food he doesnāt enjoy for energy he doesnāt need?!
Same reason office drones drink Gatorade at their desk and watch sports on tv while not playing one.
It FEELS healthy.
You should fuck with them.
Sorry Iām late to the cucumber party but, I found this in the clearance basket at our local grocery store. @Brant_Drake have you tried cucumber soda?
I havenāt had the refreshing feeling of Mr. Q Cumber in my mouth.
Let us know how it tastes.
In all seriousness, I donāt like carbonated stuff. But Iāll drink flavored water all day long.
Deli containers are just sippy cups for grownups.
Honestly it wasnāt awful, just a tiny bit of sweet but mostly cucumber. I had just never seen anything like it before.
My buddys wife makes that cucumber water all summer. I love it. Totally hits the spot.
