Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

I get too anxious. Thats like a big no-no.

My inlaws are well done with ketchup people. We have agreed to disagree.

She IS a bit better about pork chops. I gotta imagine the difference is that pork looks while when it’s done cooking (and how clever marketers started calling it ā€œthe other white meatā€) and, unless you REALLY biff it somehow, it doesn’t ā€œbleedā€ (no matter how much I try to explain that it ISN’T blood, it’s not received).

And I will fully cop to the fact that I will use ā€œinferiorā€ cuts of steak when I cook for her, since it’s going to get burned anyway. Everyone else is getting tri tip (CA’s gift to BBQ: you’re WELCOME world): she gets sirloin.

Much like pizza toppings: we all get to be a little freaky.

My wife refuses to eat meat off the bone, not totally sure why other than she says she doesn’t like the texture change hitting a bone.
I thoroughly disgust her when tearing through a rotisserie chicken or a pile of wings. I try to explain to her some of the best stuff is right there next to the bone…to no avail.
I did manage to get her to admit a good steak is something worthwhile (bacon wrapped filet will do that).

You gotta imagine the looks I get when I EAT the tips off the bone, haha. No better way to get that best stuff…but then people wonder why your chicken wings are so cunchy!

Ketchup…on…steak. Who?.. Why? I don’t…Why!!!

Is this a pineapple on pizza thing? Serious question.

I’ve seen people put ranch mixed with ketchup on steak.

It’s an abomination. Ketchup is the worst of the condiments and should be banned for that simple fact.

Ketchup is a universal solvent. But it’s ALSO a way you get kids to eat meat. And some people don’t grow up…

It DID effectively save western society…so there’s that, haha.

It served it’s purpose. We can all move on now.

Much like how ACDC STILL releases records: some people can’t let go.

There is a show on The History Channel called The Food That Built America. They did an episode on HJ Heinz.

A ketchup dynasty. Who would have ever imagined?

It’s honestly amazing how much of our food/culture/society was influenced by the fact that food was awful and trying to kill us for the majority of our existence. Finding a way to make spoiled and rotten meat palatable was huge, alongside learning how to make alcohol so we could have something to drink that wasn’t full of bacteria.

I love that show!!

Regarding cooking, I used to refuse to fry eggs for my little brother and dad bc it hurts to much to destroy a perfectly good yolk

How so? I LOVE ACDC. As soon as I heard that Brian Johnson was losing his hearing I went out and bought a few of their albums to show support.

But in doing so, I also ended up owning their entire catalog, haha.

Whilst maybe a little long in the tooth they are an Aussie constitution. I may have miss interpreted your earlier message, it read like they should have been put to bed years ago.

Ah, I was saying all their songs sound the same but they keep making more, much like how Ketchup is still Ketchup 100 years later.

And I’m not the FIRST to make this observation.

I went down to San Diego for the Fourth of July weekend with my wife. Her first time going and she was excited to go to all the best local food places.

We didn’t end up going to most due to a chaotic schedule, but we did go to Phil’s BBQ. I remember going there at one point a LONG time ago when I lived there and thinking ā€˜Eh’.

I ended up getting the beef ribs and shared it with my wife. It was ā€˜Eh’. The meat is good but, like you say, don’t need the sauce really. Beef is good on its own. Especially ribs.

My foodie friends are always surprised (and disappointed) at 1) how little equipment I use 2) how few ingredients I use

Turns out you can get more flavour than most ppl think from soy sauce, salt , and sugar

I’ve had both a double chamber smoker and an electric smoker, have brined and rubbed, and just boiled an grilled.

Meat is delicious.

My son likes to discover things on his own. He is truly a nerd. So I am going to lay back and let him discover lifting in all its glory on his own.

I talked to him about TDEE, linear progression, ATP and recovery, but he just wants to hang with his bros, so I am going to step back and support him.

He is truly a dork, and I say that lovingly. Very bright, not athletic at all. Huge SAT scores, great GPA, can’t catch a ball. Love that kid.

So we will see where this lifting journey goes.
