I confess that, my favorite breakfast is a cup of coffee and a quest bar. I rarely make that my first meal of the day, usually only on weekends when I don’t have some kind of obligation. It’s just so simple.
I confess that I drink alcohol only once each year - during the Eurovision finals. Tonight’s the night.
Just skipping through that video has me wanting a bottle of scotch and a bottle of eye bleach.
It’s a glorious piece of entertainment that is watched religiously here across the pond.
Eurovision viewing parties are a cultural staple - invite a bunch of friends, crack open a bottle or two and watch 50+ year old men in drag undressing and playing naked with roses in their anuses.
Beautiful job Anna!
Is it just for campy, shitty music?
No, that’s the catch - you’ve got some great songs, Scandinavian metal, weirdos, trolls, whatever rocks your boat.
I confess that I think the increasing popularity of powerlifting is causing many stupid gym training decisions in new lifters. A kid (maybe 16) in my gym on Friday was doing box squats with like 40kg on the bar. The reps looked good but I really question the need to be doing this movement with so little weight and so early on in the training journey. Surely at that age the best thing would be to just throw some weight on the bar and rep out some full ROM squats like we did back in the 1990’s.
I agree. I’m not strong by any stretch of the imagination, but am a slave to 531 and get frustrated waiting for a squat rack while stuff like this happens. The quarter squat with 225 is equally annoying.
I get that for some people a box squat may be a little easier to coach and certainly easier to do with light weights. But it is not necessary for most until they reach some reasonable level of strength, or they are an old guy with injuries.
Was it a high box squat or low box squat?
Some people have trouble reaching depth safely. He might have a pre- existing injury or other limitation
It was a box squat to depth, fully uloading the quads and then coming back up. What I would call a box squat. Not a squat to a box
From my visual assessment I would say there is no way this kid had that sort of issue, bit yes that can be the case for some. I think it is more likely that it is just easier to coach this way.
Probably.
When I was teaching my maths friend how to lift, I ended up doing trap bar deadlifts because he for some reason, just could not figure out how to hinge
Its funny how back in the day there was literally no coaching or PT. You went to a gym, they showed you were the locker room was (usually just one toilet), they showed you were to put your bag on a rack, if you were lucky they showed you how one of two of the plate loaded machines worked and then they left you to figure it out for yourself.
We just did what other guys/gals were going and kept doing it until we got stronger and bigger. Maybe after a few months of training, someone would spot you and give a a little tip about adding a different exercise or rep range. We said thanks and we gave it a try.
Seems like today with all the PT and coaching it is a much different world.
Think you hit the issue on the head regarding PT’s.
I feel bad squatting 135x5 on a top set just getting back into lifting, then hitting joker sets to 205, but I’m in and out in less than twenty minutes.
I do all of my assistance with dumb bells or machines. I see peeps spend an hour or more in a rack doing calf raises and glute presses.
Just me.
Happy Mother’s Day to any moms on here. For some reason, only @ChickenLittle is coming to mind. But I know there’s others, and you guys rock.
Thank you!
