Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

Nah it was Tomie

I think that is a reason teenagers should get a part time job. My first part time job working food service at the zoo sure made me appreciate that I only had to do this for 8 hours a week haha. It also made me dread full time work. At least the gig now is a lot better.

@mnben87

I have one, actually - 40 hours a week lifeguarding. I was off work that day.

Today I had a co worker tell me that I inspired him to start working out. He said he’s lost 27lbs in 3 months and has been trying to eat right and lose weight; he’s now on his last belt hole and in need of another belt.

I confess this makes me very happy and proud.

I’ve read Tomie! It’s the only anime/manga (I don’t know what the proper term is) I’ve ever read (or watched for that matter). Had to read it for a class last fall.

That’s some great progress on his part.

Great work on leading by example.

I deserve about 1% (if that) of the credit tbh… this all stemmed from a 15 minute conversation, of which i only remember him asking if i was a wrestler because of my build.

Of course, he could have meant like WWE wrestling, which is good regarding my physique but says something about my temperment😬

Still, I’m humbled to think I had such an impact on someone whom i barely know.

I confess that I had a huge meltdown after seeing the prices on the costco website

the price of a two pack of protein bars went up $10
Price of a bag of chicken breast up $14
price of chicken thighs up $.16/lb
eggs up $2.5 for the 60ct
fish and seafood >$10/lb

realistically speaking, I can still fit everything in budget but I HATE being squeezed

I AM FUCKING PISSED

STOP INFLATION

Aren’t you the econ major?

Buckle up, the ride is just getting started. Lots of time-deferred cost increases are still working their way through the supply chain.

Look on the bright side. All of the woke environmental policies being implemented across the western world should help alleviate your climate change anxiety.

no. I’m an econ minor because I refuse to take macro

This is what pisses me off. Governments should stop being woke and actually do shit

The real ā€œbright sideā€ for my family is that inflation in China is lower than that of the US so the insane prices in China feel relatively reasonable now

I might just have to start eating more peas. Honestly I’ve been kind of craving them anyways

Oh, but they will do shit. Lots and lots of shit. They promised us that they would transform the country.

I confess that I am concerned about the opportunities available to my son, nieces and nephews. It is much more difficult to be independent than it was 20 years ago, let alone get yourself ahead in life,

I am very very concerned about my future.

My parents keep saying ā€œdon’t worry, we’ll support youā€, but… just looking at where things are going, I’m not optimistic

To be fair, you’re in academia and (afaik) plan on staying there. Academics (outside of the superstars) were never really known for having a very secure financial future.

I’m not convinced that I’ll be good enough to stay in academia. My chances on the academic job market are slim to none

Wait, are environmental policies woke as well now? I’m getting so confused what these words mean.

I confess that I often use overlapping terms, but yes, I would classify our current suite of policies ostensibly implemented to fight climate change as ā€œwokeā€. When I think of ā€œwokeā€ I think of left-wing policies that naively prioritize ideological purity over real-world outcomes, backed by people addicted to self-congratulation and ready to extend harsh judgment towards any who object.

Insisting that you can’t dump industrial waste in the river is not woke, that’s a good application of government.

Insisting that America’s oil and gas industry needs to be actively neutered so heavily-subsidized, barely-developed ā€œgreenā€ energy can be implemented is very woke.
