Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

Gas prices here (West coast Canada) jumped too; almost $0.40/L.

I confess this makes me mildly perturbed.

I confess, as a Brit who doesn’t know exchange rates but does know he paid Ā£1.54/l for petrol yesterday, this makes me sad.

I confess I no longer fill up my landrover discovery at the pump as the idea of parting with over £100 to fill it boils my piss

It cost me £100 (well £96.50) to fill my family car. I almost fell over.

In other news as people start to drive less and profits are hit, except the oil companies to suddenly find that a previously discredited alternative is now suddenly viable.

Confession:
This might make me sound like a conspiracy nut. But I 100% believe the energy (oil, gas, coal) companies have alternative green energy tech ready to deploy. It would take time to build but the technology is there. I’m 100% sure if it. But why would they risk the market they are currently milking?

I had the option to buy the plug-in hybrid version of my car last summer and just went with hybrid, I have regrets.

the oil companies probably don’t but a lot of the tech has been there for a decade or more, and the prices have been declining percipitously for a lot of them. THe issue is that in many cases, green tech is still more expensive (when infrastructure is factored in), requires long term investment (too long for most politician’s terms) and large oil companies/countries are powerful

My sister worked in r&d for a large coal/gas company based here in Pa.

They did not have any green energy plans. In fact, when they shed their coal assets and switched to gas, they completely dismantled and shitcanned their entir R&D department, sold the land it was on and now there are luxury apartments, carriage homes, and single family houses where it used to be.

Ive heard that other energy & petroleum companies are hedging for the future with some interesting green tech though.

@anna_5588 @SkyzykS

A few short years back there was a UK company that developed a bit of tech that could harnesses wave power. Pretty effectively. The company that made the tech was brought by an energy giant and boom. Never seen again. It’s not the only time this has happened.

I mean one of the biggest reason hydrogen is not used as fuel is ā€œhydrolysis of materialsā€. So we split the atom in 1944, sent a man to the moon in 1969 and sent a space craft made in 1977 out of the solar system. But can’t resolve this issue?
Sorry - energy companies strangle development from the top down. Why would they want change now? They make billions

But they will be planning for the future. So they keep making billions

I dont disagree with what youve proposed.

I just know that in this one instance, this particular energy co.had no plans. Nada.

Well, their plan is marcellus shale gas, but other than that, nope.

I saw that wave powered generator on the Discovery Channel too. Very cool.

I confess I am surprised it took as long as it did for this thread to turn into a shitshow. God forbid you mention someone other than Jones or Darden as being a reputable source of information in the Darden forum.

EDIT:
This event has inspired a meme:

I did not understand that thread or it’s premise…

It quickly lost it’s meaning. How does anyone care to even bother. I’m off to the gym!

I just finished preliminary summary of literature for my thesis project. I went through 28 papers in 2 days (technically 30 but threw out 2 for irrelevance). I’d never need so focused with my work

I also have a sketch of a model. My proposal is more or less written

I also confess that when I do projects, I write the limitations section first

I’m so glad my school is giving us a week off next week. My brain is starting to get fried again.

Went grocery shopping today and saw that my favorite chocolate bar from childhood now comes in a ā€œhealthyā€ version with gaudy letters on the packaging promising ā€œ14 grams of whey protein!ā€ and ā€œzero sugar!ā€. I carefully read the ingredients list, noticed maltitol being on top of the list and fully acknowledged the warning inside the black box on the cover about ā€œpossible laxative effectsā€ and corresponding ramifications.

I consumed 14 grams of said protein, possibly not optimal in terms of daily macros. Two hours later, my glutes are sore from almost an hour spent sitting on the toilet.

I regret nothing.

I am sure there is a inverse relationship between how many guests you have in your house and how much space and patience you have available.

I confess that I’ve done nothing productive today.

I’ve been attempting to get a proposal written all day and have not had any success…

Theoretically, I could have worked on other stuff, but just didn’t have any motivation

How is it we’re paying stupid prices at the pumps and these very same companies are posting record profits. Same as energy suppliers, the whole system is corrupt.

I believe the oil companies will milk as much money as they can out of consumers, doesn’t help that pure electric cars are so expensive for a decent one and the infrastructure isn’t there.

Without getting too political one of the things Corbyn was suggesting at the last election was about nationalising energy (I’m far from a Corbynite). Kind of seems like a decent idea now though.
