Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 2)

Those two events are probably not independent… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@cyclonengineer i am once again having major regret over maths

https://www.imbs.uci.edu/graduate/requirements.php

I don’t have room in my schedule for the recommended maths, stats and programming classes and even if I did, I don’t think I could handle them

I think you are misreading it. Those are the classes needed for the doctorate specifically not the admission requirements.

I figured that my chances of getting in are low

I’m trying to see if I can shift things around to at least fit discrete maths in:
I’ve done multivariate, diff eq and intro pure maths. I’m going to take probability and maybe discrete if things work out

I confess I clicked on a Patricia Cornwall (the crazy Delta passenger) link thinking it was Patricia Cornwell, the author of the Kay Scarpetta novels. Now I can’t unsee…

I’m too old for competitive multiplayer video games.
I tried playing StarCraft 2 for the first time in probably 10 years or so. I wasn’t a very good player back then but fuck me… I have gotten old!
I’m way too slow, don’t know which buttons to press and how I’m supposed to do it all at once.
Similar experience when I tried a few matches of Counterstrike GO a while ago with friends. I wasn’t exactly a pro at CS 1.6 and CSS but holy moly, I’m sure a bot is more useful at this point, haha.

I played TEAM FORTRESS exactly once back when it originally came out. I was a grown-ass man at the time, married with kids and a great career. I chose to be a sniper because I like sniping in games. Some 10-year-old kid berated the shit out of me because apparently, I’m the biggest idiot in the world because snipers were totally useless on the map we were playing on. For the entire match, this little kid was on me. If I could have beat the shit out of the little kid, I would gladly have gone to jail for doing it. That was the last time I played a video game online.

The skill gap is just insane, plus you have people playing it hours and hours every day. I played competitive CS 1.6 for a lil’ bit back in the day and wasn’t anything incredible, and yeah - it was a rough attempt and trying to get back in. Now I just play my kid’s Switch when he’s in bed, haha.

My gym is awesome. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but we get new equipment every year, and nothing stays broken or even a little wonky for more than a day or two without being immediately fixed. This year, we’ve gotten:

A few new types of barbells - couple SSBs, buffalo bar, 3 new deadlift bars, and a rogue trap bar - over 1000 lbs in calibrated rogue weights, a hip belt squat machine, a reverse hyper machine, a few different machines that are hard to describe, and I walked in two days ago to find that we’d gotten a brand new Pendulum Squat, which was a lot of fun to use.

It’s $30 a month, and I pay an extra $10 a month for the daycare there (10 for both kids, not each), which has been watching my kids for 1-1.5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for like 4 years at this point. If you do 5 hours a week, 4 weeks a month, that’s 20 hours of daycare for 10 bucks - or 50 cents an hour, and the girls there are awesome.

Anyways, no real point to all of this, I just really appreciate well-run businesses and have never felt like a single penny that I’ve spent there has been wasted.

@dagill2 @tlgains thanks!

Now time to chase 60kg press at 47kg bodyweight :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But in all seriousness, I care much more about my lower body lifts.

I really hope I can get a 140kg (315lb) deadlift by my birthday. I want my strength ratios back

While at work a while ago, I had my hands over my head and my arms were flexed while waiting. Biceps were naturally flexed and it wasn’t intentional. Co-worker asks me if I lift weights. Humbly said “a little”

Not gonna lie, made me smile a bit

Last night we were at dinner with family friends.

They said my little bro got skinnier. He’s always been a skinny kid and is now getting into lifting thanks to his apparently buff gf

I felt some second hand embarrassment

On the confession side: I keep skipping single leg work…

I confess…

That reading a story about Arthur Jones being an anti-social weirdo who spent New Year’s Eve coming up with a list of 200 people he wanted to die in 365 days has done little to alter my opinion of him.

That the Mrs and I didn’t even try to make it to midnight last night. Part of that is being old, but part of it is also just not really wanting to see a recap of 2021.

That it’s day 4 of the diet break and I’m already researching big eating.

That on that topic, my appetite is too simple to make use of all the cool cookbooks and gadgets I have. It’s GREAT Shepard’s pie weather, but instead of going through the trouble I could just eat meat and mashed cauliflower.

??? dafuq???

That’s what my little bro and mum are for :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Most of the stuff I make for myself is probably best described as semi-edible

I have performed zero embellishing in my retelling, amazingly enough.

There is speculation that a meteor exploded over my region earlier today, backed by widespread reports of a very loud, mysterious explosion, houses shaking, and a flash picked up by the NWS.

And I’m like:

Great.
