I confess…

I have gone so midwest native that I grilled up burgers on my ninja grill during a tornado yesterday because, goddamnit, it was burger night in my house. We had camping chairs set up in the basement, just in case our meal became a “progressive dinner”. However, I’m still California yuppie scum at heart, so my burgers were salmon and chicken.

That I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever done an RPE 10 lift like twice in my life. I’m curious why so many folks are entertaining the idea that some dude is RPE 10-ing EVERY lift in EVERY training session…

That I am way too proud of my kid for declaring “bison is my favorite meat”. Like I needed an excuse to buy more.

That I am SOOOO f**king sick of eating…

That I want to write a book on mass gaining with a very simple program and easy nutrition recipes that I could just give to a high school kid to get jacked…and then I realize Dan John already wrote that.

I feel you here, i just started eating way lower carb (doctor’s orders). It is hard to get in 3500+ calories on mostly just protein and healthy fats.

It’s the “secret” to lean bulking alright. You can put away 800 calories of rice and STILL be hungry. You try to put away 800 calories of chicken breast and you want to die.

On a similar aside, I was reading an article online detailing the Rock’s diet for the Hercules movie he did (I actually enjoyed it for what it was), and since no one proofs anything anymore, instead of “9oz baked potatoes” it said “90z baked potatoes” for meal 5, and I just died imagining some 15 year old yelling into the kitchen

“MOM! I need 90 ounces of baked potatoes with dinner tonight! I’m trying to look like The Rock!”

I’ve put down 800kcal of chicken.breast and wanted more chicken…

Now that I think of it, every time I eat meat, I always want more meat afterwards

Fruit is the ultimate appetite stimulant for me though

I have my theories regarding this.

But I also wonder if you flavored the chicken breast.

If I’m broiling it I use salt, paprika and a bit of cayenne

Other times, I just salt it and poach it

I dislike sauces and ran out of mustard

Salt is a game changer for palatability.

I confess I believe the RPE scale should be retired for anyone with less than 5 years productive training, especially if you’re only going to apply it to upper body lifts.

In a related confession: I can’t imagine being able to perceive any real exertion from a 155lbs Bench beyond the minute or so it took to do the set, even if I were to reach failure with it.

Yup! Scale of perspective. Anything can be an RPE 10 if you’ve never actually pushed yourself in your life.

Realized I forgot to reply to this, but I’ve got a TON of these from various trips. I’ll have to see where they all went. I’ve gotten QUITE talented at packing for these trips, haha.

I think the telltale is only applying it to upper body lifts. Taking something to failure must be RPE 10, because I can’t lift it anymore, right? OK, cool, now Squat 2 plates until you can’t Squat any more, see if that feels a bit different.

Nope, haven’t seen it. Thanks, will probably check it out. The only thing I watched that’s similar was half of the first season of Westworld and I got too bored to continue. No, having Anthony Hopkins in it and playing Karma Police on the piano in an “Old West” setting aren’t enough to sustain my interest lol.
