Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Getting lean for me requires a level of control I find hard.
My relationship with food is toxic. If I’m not 100% focused I fall off the wagon to junk food and weight gain.

Confession.

After years of babying my shoulders due to arthritis pain, tendonitis, etc, decided to start punishing them again.

And…now the pain has lessened and is helping my sleep (I am a side sleeper, and used to wake up multiple times per night with shoulder pain/numbness/tingleing)

So, the moral to the story is, get after it. Train hard and everything else in life will sort itself out.

Right?

Been my experience.

You baby the body, the body becomes a baby. You push it, it moves. Steve Pulcinella coined this as “paleo rehab”.

Similarly my low back got fucked up playing football as a freshman in high school, not sure what it actually was, it’s just been a constant soreness and occasional sharp pain, for the better part of the last 18ish years. It feels the best when i’m deadlifting regularly.

I confess just bought a running armband, so I guess this is serious. I also confess I measured my arm for sizing and was disappointed at the 14" cold, un-flexed measurement.

Same thing here with my back. If I worry about it I hurt it.

I don’t like eggs, there’s a few types of eggs I can stomach. Anyway, we had a new neighbour who invited us for breakfast a few weeks ago.

Does fried eggs. Fried eggs are only above boiled for me except this guy cracks the eggs in a pool of duck fat and butter. Then kinda throws the fat over the top of the egg, keeping mainly off the heat.

I literally drove to the shop and bought duck fat right after breakfast and have been having these every day since.

I believe you are referring to basted eggs?

I looked this up and Yes!!! Amazing!

EDIT: apparently this doubles the fat content lol

I’m confused - is your confession that you didn’t realize drowning eggs in fat would make them taste good, or is it that you didn’t realize that drowning them in fat could double the fat content?

I didn’t think that basting would make such a difference over frying.

I had deep fried deviled eggs for the first time today. Amazing.

Duck fat is amazing, it makes most things tastier when used for frying. Apparently, it is one of the more healthy types of fat as well, which is just an added bonus.

Why is it so amazing…? Last time I opened a can of duck confit, I ate it all… ALL! ALL 8 THIGHS! That was way more than 2000 cals alone

I confess that the thought of duck grosses me out, so I’ve never had it and never will. That’s the kind of person I am, which I acknowledge is not the right kind of person to be. Maybe lima beans are delicious, but I’ll never know it if they are.

Your missing out with the duck. I also recommend pheasant - much better than chicken or turkey.

I confess I can’t eat sweet potatoes. This is one food even picky eaters seem to like that I can’t get behind, and I eat almost everything.

I confess that it is getting harder to get up early and keep motivation for working out at home.

I confess you picky eaters confuse the heck out of me.

I mean, I will eat canned chicken, but not by choice.
I got called the garbage truck in college because I would consume most things.

My wife, on the other hand, eats like a kid - I blame her southern raising.

I confess that I’d be willing to try any semi-edible part of any semi-edible living organism this includes:

  • bugs of various types
  • fish guts
  • organ meats (including the balls)
  • sea cucumber

Caveat: I’m very picky about HOW the food is cooked

I confess I actually find canned chicken quite good
