That’s the thing!

The thing from all of the TV shows where people get walloped!!!

I’d love to try one of those, even if it results in my getting tumbled like laundry.

So the problem is that if the person ahead of you gets tumbled like laundry, you’re laughing. So they’re caught in the machine all arms and legs akimbo, trying to get up with maybe with a knee stuck on the thing, and when they finally finish falling and bouncing, the machine arm is released and comes springing AT the next person. You’re laughing, which is fine for light jumping maybe, but to get the whole body thing needed for a big jump over the arm while you’re still laughing and the thing has gone unpredictable…well, it’s impossible. Your only choice (if you’re me) is to turn and run-jump away from it, which has whoever is next facing both the arm and the panicked runner. Now they’re laughing and the thing is COMING and…OMG, it’s fun.

I decided to see about buying one this morning, but they’re like $10K, so I guess I don’t get to have one of my own right now.

No, no, not at all. He’s a depressed, angry guy and I’m well aware it’s him, not me, who is the problem. I was more surprised that I was reactive at all to ā€œslutā€ than anguished by it. I’m not a slut, and even if I were, so what? It just pushed a button I wasn’t aware I had. I mean, I’m not 15 years old. But I’m not struggling with anything as a result of it. Thank you for worrying, though!

I feel like this is not the first time I see this exact thing happening?

My lifetime max is 305 - twice. I would love to hit 6 with the 100s.

Besides, bench is overrated. I like deadlifts. The key to ego lifting is to first find the lift at which you’re naturally good and then train it up so you can show off.

I’m running The Daily Dose of Deadlift with the hopes of getting back to a 500 lb pull. I said I’d run the program for squats if I hit my goal. I pulled 465 today after pulling snatch grip two days ago and from a deficit yesterday (75% of 450). I should’ve been tired today and felt great.

My confession is that I think I’m going to hit my goal but I really don’t want to run a Daily Dose of Squats program. Damn me and my mouth.

One time I got into a fight with 3 guys ( was a bouncer at a bar) and wore sunglasses for a week at the gym to avoid questions but the looks were pretty funny.

Are your hands registered weapons ?

Negative but my ego should be, was not a great idea started out as a 3v3 until the two guys I was with ditched. Luckily I have a head made out of cement.

I’ve never really focused on bench - that’s why I decided to target it this year.

I’m not bothered about the ego numbers, I just find it entertaining that just about everyone on the internet claims to bench 500+, and everyone you meet in the pub used to bench 400 - they always say ā€œI used toā€ and the next line is often ā€œbut I had to stop because I got too bigā€.

No point trying to show off in my gym - there’s no-one there in the mornings when I train, and in the evening the lads from the local rugby club are there and they really do lift the big numbers!

Is that 7 days a week of ā€œDaily Doseā€ or how does that work?

You’re a braver man than me!

Five days a week of doing 3-5 singles at 75%. The weight jumps for every 7th workout to 80, 85, 90, 82.5, 87.5, 92.5%. Every workout besides those six are done at 75% and after 45 sessions I get to test my max.

Sounds about right it’s amazing how many guys are border line elite lifters or guys who knows someone that lift 100lbs over a all time world record lift.

Now you’re making me sad I teased you for looking forward to writing complaint letters.

I had no idea that kind of crap was going on. Sorry!

That’s not a light weight and don’t let anyone make you think differently. I admittedly have very poor body mechanics for bench (very tall, very long arms). I seldom go over 120/130 for six and am a very experienced lifer – who intends to keep his shoulders healthy.

The bench is a necessary part of working out and fitness – but it is not, remotely, the most important lift for real life and real strength. Deadlifts, leg work, pull ups, carries, etc, are all far more important.

Stick to a weight you can do with good form on bench – and get where you can do 15 of them. THEN move up.

That’s not normal advice in most lifts, but too many people screw up their shoulders with bench.

Why would you feel badly for teasing me?

It’s funny, I was thinking about this in the car this morning (the slut thing, not your teasing) and it occurred to me that the first picture I ever posted to TN was in response to someone who called me fat and suggested I shop at Walmart. It pissed me RIGHT OFF. We were arguing about something, and I said I had to go because I was going shopping, and he said something to the effect of ā€œyeah, at Walmart, where all the fat people shop.ā€ I left and went shopping, but it just ate at me for some reason, and the below picture, taken in a dressing room (note anti-theft device on jacket) was the result. I don’t know how long ago that was, but I suppose I should be happy to have only two strong reactions in however many years. ā€œGo ahead and threaten to beat me up, I DON’T CARE. Just don’t call me fat!ā€

Edit: I do shop at Walmart from time to time, as I assume everyone does. But I don’t buy any plus sized outfits there, lol.
