Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Confession:
I went to the barbers today and paid £25 for a guy to shave my head and trim my beard. I’m going to go back in 3 months because I like being “groomed”.

Worth it - straight razor shaves from the barber are great too.

Yeah - I got the whole thing. Beard trim, then shaped, cut throat razor, cleanser / alcohol, hot towel and then aftershave.

Is it strange that I “like” the sting of the alcohol after the cut throat shave?

Not strange - you might be a bit of a masochist though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of lifters were masochists in some way

I had this bright idea that 400 meter sprinters are awesome so I should train like one. I even found a training plan.

It turns out that I do not want to be a 400m runner. They run every day and their workouts take hours. The warm up and cool down is a mile jog each. I don’t even want to do that much work.

I get the 400m bug every so often. Longest I’ve kept it up was 3 workouts - one day though

I dislike running and 400 meters is tolerable, trains the energy systems I need, and is good for the physique.

They make “From couch to marathon” training plans. Where are the 400m and 800m programs? I need “Average Joe’s 400m Training” - the program for someone who will never run at 100% effort ever again, but would like to be able to go at 85% without dying.

I’d wager that, aside from communities like this, the money just isn’t there.

Every single one of daughters (even the baby) is a 400 or 800 meter sprinter/runner. All of the eldest did it in college. The 12 year old is 58 seconds, and puked EVERYWHERE afterwards, then cried. The eldest just told her that was part of it, and to shake it off.

Not for me, but apparently either my genetics or the genetics of the women I chose to marry.

Kinda disappointed your confession wasn’t: I found a 400m sprint plan, changed most of the program based on a YouTube video of someone who has never raced and barely looks like they run, did it for a week before deciding it doesn’t work. I then went to a runner’s forum, gave them a bunch of half truths and challenged anyone who gave me helpful advice.

Been saving up a few:

I confess that, this morning, I think the only thing that kept me from seeing a 1 and 7 as the first numbers on the scale was the energy drink and yogurt I had beforehand. I’m approaching high school levels of bodyweight.

I confess that my kid wanted to swing by a fast food place to celebrate the first day of school, so I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, brought it home, threw out the bread, put it on a “keto friendly hamburger bun” with reduced fat cheese and zero sugar BBQ sauce, pretty much only using the chicken breast and lettuce and tomato that came with the sandwich. I’ve totally become this person. I was also somewhat proud with how that creation turned out.

I confess that it’s upsetting how much I enjoy my “diet coleslaw” I’ve come up with, which is sauerkraut mixed with zero sugar BBQ sauce. I could eat an unreasonable amount of it.

I confess that protein bars, which I used to eat 4 a day of, have become my daily “cheat”.

I confess to plotting to commit egregious sins of nutrition on my birthday.

I confess to taking all the marshmallows out of my kid’s Count Chocola cereal per their request and failing to use that opportunity to eat any of it

^^Work in progress

I confess to the sin of having WAY too complicated a post workout shake

I don’t have that kind of free time on my hands.

Are the egg whites a powder or liquid?

Liquid. They’re a drinkable egg white, pre-cooked and pasteurized. I learned about them from Jon Andersen. They’re really nifty. I mix them in with breakfast cereal in place of milk to get a little more protein and less carbs/fats. They have no odor or flavor, and none of the sliminess that comes with regular egg whites.

Whoof, they’re expensive, haha.

Never pay full price. They’ve got a 25% off sale right now, and you can register to be part of their MVP club to get other discounts when they aren’t heavily discounted.

But with how much food I’m NOT eating these days, I’m already saving, haha.

I’ve been using the shredded cabbage/carrot mix and making various and usually very simple dressings for quite a while, mostly just balsamic and some Evo.

And I love it.

So my grandmother bought a commercially bottled strawberry shake from the grocery. Sugar content was really high but she really wanted to taste it, so she drank some, and gave me the rest.

I was expecting it to taste really sweet, but it didn’t, and it had a weird texture to it. Apparently it was a strawberry protein shake. I honestly don’t know how you guys drink that stuff. To be fair, I don’t know if all protein shakes are like that, but anyway, props to body builders for the dedication.
