Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Never actually threatened my neighbors but I have thought about killing them for their personal fireworks display at 1am during a drought. :smirk:

Mine was only at like 10:00.

But wow, she was screaming at the top of her lungs!

I guess she had to though. Those things were were really loud.

This made me laugh!

For some reason, it bothers me when my brother takes steps to ā€œbe healthierā€ ie exercise, refuse treats etc…
I understand it’s pretty messed up and irrational, but the reaction feels reflexive. @EmilyQ @planetcybertron Any ideas?

I’m neither of those people but I would guess that it’s related to how incredibly hard and strict you can be on yourself regarding such things. Maybe deep down you want fitness/health to be associated with you, not your brother.

Seen similar things in my own family, and not because we don’t care about each other improving. It might not be the best feeling to have but it’s also not the worst, haha.

hmm I never thought of that, but good point! I do vaguely remember feeling something similar many years ago when my brother started enjoying history yet I’d proudly acknowledge that he’s better at math than me

We have a family in our neighborhood that, between the 5 people living in their house, maybe have 4 brain cells collectively. On the 4th this year they sent several volleys horizontally onto their neighbor’s crowded porch. The neighbors were friendly about it but I sure as shit wouldn’t have been.

Are you even an ounce jealous? Do you solely want it to just be you who’s in shape? If there’s even a slight yes to either of those, it’s okay. It’s rather normal from self preservation(ish)/competition type of viewpoint.

My husband has shed nearly 50 lbs within the span of 2 months, and I’ve openly discussed how it irritates me on a very low level. I will always be happy for him in his endeavors. Without fail his happiness just makes my eyes light up. And whatever selfish thoughts float through my head, are quite fleeting just as quickly as they showed up.

So all in all it’s okay to have those feelings, it’s okay to also perhaps turn it into a learning experience for yourself and for your brother.

Thanks so much for the insight!

Dude up the street! How you doing?:joy:

These went straight up about 100ft. But were surprisingly big. Probably 50 feet across.

I have some tubing and was going to fab up an aimable handheld/shoulder launch for the big bottle rockets, but these are sensitive times and I don’t want to end up on a list.

Again

But that just sounds like sibling rivalry in some aspect
And if you don’t care about math, that’d explain why you don’t mind that he’s better

There’s a strongman contest in my state 6 weeks from now and I’m toying with the idea of competing. Wasn’t planning on doing any this year, and I don’t really want to pay the membership fee for one show, but the event line up looks like a blast - all 5 are keg related.

I’ll add my name to the list of people who label it sibling rivalry, which is natural and healthy (until it’s not). I agree with @jshaving’s point about fitness being your thing and assume that your brother has moved into what feels like your lane.

God help us all if he gets serious about it and you feel compelled to up your game to compete. :anguished:

Part of the irrationalality is that he has 0 interest in lifting (recently took up skateboarding). My parents want him to start but they are clueless and are focused on him building shoulders and chest. Even if he ā€œgot seriousā€ his personality is such that it wouldn’t last. He takes after my dad, who managed to make quite impressive gains in his 20s but fell off the wagon in his 30s and despite constantly stating intentions to improve his physique, has yet to do so. I see the same in my brother. Also, I’d love nothing more than for my brother to be the hot, successful bachelor… just not in the short term?
Sorry for the rant

How old is he?

17 literally the best brother ever

Ah, he still has plenty time to become the hot bachelor. Have you asked him to train with you? Maybe he doesn’t know where to start.

Oh, people had the big ones too, they just didn’t fuck them up. haha I fully support fireworks and boom-booms in general, just not in the hands of people I wouldn’t trust if my life depended on it.

Hey, what big brother doesn’t know won’t hurt anyone, build that mofo. We built a tater cannon one time and fueled it with calcium carbide rocks soaked in water. It shot a potato about 1/4 mile without going fully ballistic with the trajectory

I rode an Airdyne today for the first time and did intervals and it deeply royally sucks. It’s worse than the rower. Guess that means I should do it more.
