The essence of thrash is not having a pretty voice, though Joey Belladonna (Anthrax) could really rip some classic songs up. Check out their cover of Carry on Wayward Son.
But I do agree, his voice is probably the worst among the big 4. Still miles better than mine so no flame on him there. haha He was most squarely between singing and screaming with that low-laryngeal growl and I think that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
I was volun-told to sing in the first band I was ever in and we had to cover Symphony of Destruction in our first ever concert. Imagine a very high-voiced 13-year-old trying to growl along to Dave…
I do believe this is an oxymoron, one can’t be into metal and be a nerd. If you have nerd tendencies but are into metal, that negates all nerdiness and now you’re just awesome.

I don’t give a shit if the metal songs are about the goddamn Shire being abducted by Captain Picard and his Starship Troopers, you ain’t a nerd. it’s metal. How is this concept difficult for you?
