Flame Free Confession III: Even More Flame Free (Part 1)

Balut (fertilized developing duck egg) anyone? Lots a good protein and calories

Exotic Delicacy 'Balut' Is Actually Not As Bad As Some People Say ...

My son is also VERY competitive. He’s 7 and has been this way wince he was 3. The running joke in our house is ā€œif you down the stairs, my son will race you to the bottomā€.

My confession is the same as yours. I actively look for people to bring him down a peg or two.

Im South African actually, just living in England. This is a pretty common pizza combo in cape town. I was sceptical when i first saw it, but its spectacular.

Jackfruit. The smell is much worse.

I had dinner at a South African family’s house once and they had a bowl of bananas and baked beans on the table. Still not unconvinced this banana thing isn’t some collective Afrikaaner meme.

Im convinced we have a genetic sweet tooth, so adding anything with sugar in to anything else is probably going to be good.

I’m also a South African living in the UK. I’ve never heard of bananas and baked beans!

I’m braaiing pizza tomorrow night and I’m strangely tempted to give @whang’s mango idea a go… but there’s definitely going to be a Hawaiian on the menu!

Bacon and banana. Trust me. A little bit of Ms Balls chutney too ofcourse

Mrs Balls for sure. I was going for bacon (ham really) with pineapple, but maybe I’ll give the banana a go too just for shits and giggles.

One friend bought some for a party. It smelled bad sure, but not as bad as they make it to be in the videos. Though when they opened it, it splashed everywhere because of the pressure and some guests had their clothes corrupted forever

I’ve had the fermented fish twice in Iceland and it really doesn’t taste half bad, especially not when it’s chased with Brennivin. Smells fucking awful, sure, but so do quite a few cheeses we all happily eat

This whole tropical tangent has plunged me into a cycle of thinking that inevitably results in my trying something different.

Since it began I keep going back, working it over, thinking about how to make it work.

Now I’m at ā€œPineapples/mango, cheese has to have some bite- like a little parmesan, spice up the sauce with red pepper flakes… Yeah, this is gonna workā€¦ā€.

:joy:

I pretty much have to at this point. I have to get some of that dank provolone to mix it up a little, but it’s gonna be good.

I usually have a thick covering of grated cheddar as a base - plus extra mozzarella with the ham & pineapple one. I have a whole bunch of provolone in the fridge though - maybe I’ll give it a go with the mango, although I confess I’m VERY suspicious of this mango theory…

I’m going to zest it up a little with some extra oregano and pepper in the sauce.

That’s going to hit all of the taste buds.

Lots of variety of mangos so not sure if it will work with just any variety. Still, give it a go!

I’m 10 days away from the beginning of my session of exams in university.

On the 25th, through the 29th I’ll be taking 3 exams: I’ll have a spoken only physics test, a written (a C program) + spoken algorithms exam, and a written + spoken linear algebra and arithmetics test.

Due to covid, the modalities for exams have been changed a little bit. So physics, which used to be written plus optional spoken part will only be spoken, and for the written parts of the other two exams there’ll be no grade, only pass/fail.

I confess that I’m starting to feel the pressure. I wanna do great on all those three exams, possibly get the highest score. I have not gone a single day without studying (averaging 5 hours a day) for the past 5 months; I fell in love with the subjects and worked hard.

Still, I can’t help but be a little anxious about something going wrong. If I could take all the exams tomorrow and be done with it, I’d totally do it.

Hope everything goes well.

Many years back I was visiting my sister in SA and got invited to a braai. Asked the host, a huge Afrikaaner dude, if he had some side dishes to go with all the meat he just stuffed on my plate.

He stared at me uncomprehendingly for a few moments and the gave me some boerewors.

Phrasing, dude.

Finally! Somebody else understands. I have said for years, that the best sidedish with BBQ is sausage.
