Just so long as you remember that most of the people on the other side are just regular folks who want to live their lives, just like everywhere else in the world. A lot of people tend to forget that when they’ve been harmed.
A bit different, but I go through phases of following the news too, either reading and watching all I can about everything or outright avoiding it when it gets too depressing.

You know the sad part of this for me? I’m actually half (Christian) Arab, lived with an Iranian Muslim woman for 8 years, and hung out with her Arab student friends for years. I had a genuine interest in Islam…
But along comes 9/11, the cartoons, the beheadings, the teddy bear, and so many, many other hateful things that I can’t recall. Mix in Lixy’s crap, and viola, I find myself with a growing anti-Muslim sentiment…
