First Meet for LM and Chaz

HeavyTriple - was doing that for awhile and it absolutely destroyed my elbows, so much so that I couldn’t finish workouts.

When using a monolift you meed to make sure your entire body is set tight so that you don’t have to readjust once you unrack. I was wondering why the hell you kept moving your feet around after you unracked, then I read this statement.

You bench looked like you could use some stability work of some kind since it was wobbling all over the place and you were kind of wiggling it up at times.

Is there any reason you take such a wide stance and grip when you deadlift? Usually when I see people pull like that it’s because they have a big gut, which you don’t have at all.

Aside from me being nit-picky, great job at the meet. I’m hoping to do one eventually, but I really want to total elite in the gym before doing a meet.

Wide grip is because I was having trouble getting my hips down/involved so that seemed to help. I didn’t think my stance was particularly wide. There was definitely some stability issues in my bench, again I think this was due more to the pause than anything which is something I’ll be working on. I wish I had access to a monolift cause it was really a big difference to me. It was so foreign to me to be set and not have to set my body that I really didn’t overcome this at all in any way shape or form at the meet. During warmups I almost fell over backwards twice because I started to walk it out then stopped myself. I was hoping for an elite total in the gym before the meet as well and if I use all my PR’s I’m definitely closer than what I put up here but I wouldn’t take this meet back for the world. It was such an awesome experience and I’m already planning out my next one in maybe 6 months or so.

Good luck with it. I look forward to seeing your lifts.

Nice job to both of you!

Understood. I used to have elbow problems, but I was doing a lot of skullcrushers back then. Once I cut out triceps work with the EZ bar I’ve never had a problem.

One thing I started doing before the meet (not really to prepare for a monolift because I didn’t know they would be there, but I think it helped) was unracking the bar in my squat stance, so I only had to take two small steps back and I would be where I needed to be. Only allow yourself two steps.

edit.

Yah my walkout is a bit farther out. It’s almost only ever 2 steps but they’re decent sized steps.

I’m glad you enjoyed your first meet!
Many of us don’t train with a mono-lift. Now that you know what it’s like it will be much easier going forward. Best of Luck!!

Congratulations on getting your first meet under your belt. You are mistaken that you didn’t set prs – you did on everything because the only prs that truly matter are those you set in a meet.

My two cents regarding your videos:

Squat: you might try beltless pause squats for 3s or 5s on your ME day as a max effort movement or as your first accessory movement.

Bench: lose the little pop you have after you unrack. Pause more frequently in training as you note you need to do do. Some guys can get away with not pausing much at all in training. I’m not one of them and it looks like you might not be either.

Deads: As others have said, I’d move your grip in. You are pulling the bar a lot farther than you need to.
