That is one goddamn good link right there. If you guys haven’t watched that video do so ASAP and watch all the other vid’s too. I feel like I just got out of class… I actually took some notes.

My athletic background was lifting and throwing(cept one year I worked out in a boxing gym and spared when i was a teenager cuz I thought it would make me tough)

weightlifters and PL’s of course…but the very specific strength sports…like throwing, which are very limited in the technique. I am not saying that a glide shot put throw is not very technical, it is…but shot, discuss, hammer, even HG, well, there is a BIG difference in the amount of athleticism required to perform those kinds of sports vs being an offensive lineman, or fighter, etc.

I know for a fact that there were very sport “specific” exercises that I did that helped my throws.

for example, a great predictor of how I would do in my 56lb weight over bar was how much I was doing in the jump squat leading up to a particular competition.

another: an increase in my conventional rack pull always led to an increase in my competition sumo deadlift.

I could go on.

but or the insanely complex sports like fighting, team field sports, sport specificity is BULLSHIT.

do you know how many top level NFL linemen pretty much just play around with hammer strength equipment for there gym work?

long stupid post from somebody with no combat sport experience that is agreeing with the OP. I know you are all glad i concur, and can sleep better at night now.

Heavythrower,

I know you said that tongue in cheek but it’s actually good to hear from someone outside our ‘arena’. Plus I have big respect for throwers. The guy that actually got me into lifting in high school was a jr college shot put guy. First time I ever saw someone power clean and squat and all that shit was him. I told him I put on 5lbs of muscle and he told me that’s what he ate this morning for breakfast lol. But he let me lift with them at the college gym and I never looked back.

Definitely threw me into plyometrics and shit far too early (I’ve always been super explosive but I was weak as shit at the time) but he made sure I squatted deep by calling me a pussy. repeatedly. First time I ever heard “ass to grass” was from his bunch of throwers lol.

sidebar: yo where the fuck do you get these avatar’s cause goddamn, i keep trying to stick my face in the monitor.

Google “latina booty source” have fun…and dont have anything planned for a couple of hours.

oh, and thanks!

2 of my favorite words right there I shoulda figured.
