Feelings of Boredom

I don’t know exactly how to describe this. Feelings are sort of abstract to men. But every now and then I get an emotional “whats the point?”

Its usually comes accross as a feeling of boredom or longing. Sometimes its like a feeling of restlessness.

Every now and then I need something to make life interesting. In the American Capitalistic nature I usually look to buy something that will entertain me or make life easier. I usually, however, end up controlling myself by telling myself “I don’t need that”.

It usually comes up when I am not completely busy with a minute to minute schedule. If I have an entire day free and my friends are all busy, then I generally just feel bothered.

I keep asking myself “What should I do?” I have the money to do a number of things, but having to be back in town for work the next day is like some sort of prison of obligation. I usually end up watching some television or playing some video games. But after playing the same games and watching shows whilst mentally vegging, it just wears on me. Like I should be out doing something, yet I have nothing I need to do. Nothing I could want to do by myself, that is.

Sometimes I even wish that I could pick up some overtime just to keep busy.

This might sound like lonliness. But I have a rich and fulfilling life. I have a small core set of friends, but it suits my lifestyle. When I am with friends I’m humorous and boisterous, but with outside society I keep to myself mostly. I have a fultime job that more than pays the bills. I go to school. I have an apartment with a good friend of mine.

Depression? I don’t think so. I am generally a happy guy. It only gets like this every now and then.

Whatever it is, it sucks. Its not bad enough to the point that I wish to seek help or go out of my way to fix it. It just is. I am hoping that it is normal.

Does anyone ever get this feeling?

Wow, that’s pretty much how I feel a lot of the time, with similar cicumstances to the ones you describe.

I find it comes down to being too introspective, thinking about things too much and generally worrying about wasting my limited time.

I guess it’s better than having real problems to deal with though.

Yes. Try dancing.

I get like that a lot, except I fall victim to the American Capitalistic tendencies. Haha…

Try to plan things out in advance that you’d look forward to. And while you’re doing whatever it is, be in the moment and not start thinking “oh shit, tomorrow I have an exam and…damnit, I forgot to pay that bill…”

If you haven’t read TC’s newest article, do so. I’m still trying to let it sink in, which is expected because living in the moment isn’t something that comes naturally to me.

Get this guy a cranberry juice.

I think it has to do with never having down time.

Society is so busy and we’ve had so much streaming entertainment at the ready our entire lives, that we don’t know how to deal with peace and quiet.

That’s what you get for being glued to the tv/computer/console while blasting your music (when you aren’t on the job) for the last several decades.

Go to the library, get a book, and spend the entire day without any electrical gadgetry.

Oh the horror!

LOL. Exactly. I tell people who get bored to stop being self-depressin, pseudo-intellectual weenies and to go volunteer at an animal shelter or soup kitchen.

You can’t make one comment which is not full of hatred, can’t you?

Yes, well done, that made a vast amount of sense.

Down time and wasting time alone is unnatural.

I’ll bet our ancestors did not have a lot of time to do nothing.

Your feelings just mean that you are probably a fuctional productive member of society and not a lazy piece of shit.

We all have a spiritual void in our heart that can only be filled by The Lord. HE created us this way.
Its the only thing throughout history that makes any sense of life.

I feel like that all the time. Hell, even the set of friends you have and the way you act around them sounds pretty close to me. It’s called being a ‘Type-A personality’. It’s how we are.

You should try the game, “World of Warcraft”.

Yeah, suggesting someone with extra time on their hands volunteer at an animal shelter or soup kitchen should be considered rotten and evil.

There are different ways of suggesting stuff. Telling somebody “fuck off, go doing something worthless scumbag” isn’t really going to work well.

Dude, while I think it is apparent that Cali-law can go off on tangents unwarranted pretty damn often, your post makes no sense at all. What the fuck was “full of hatred” in what was written?

Learn to think for yourself.

That depends on who says it and who it is being said to. Hugs and kisses are often just as useless…like the guy telling the latest newb in the pic forum that he has “weak points” when his whole fucking body is a “weak point”.

I fail to understand how the last sentence is connected to the first paragraph you wrote, if not as a cheap catchphrase.

Where the hell do you get this? Even wild animals will spend a day lazing around after they’ve made a kill and eaten their fill. At least unless something comes along and tries to eat them.

We have to be the only species that finds the need to work endlessly even after our needs are met. Yes, I know, but wants aren’t needs.

It is related because I think many here (possibly not you, but who knows) simply like to jump on bandwagons. There are people on this site who can’t stand me simply because they read that someone else can’t. I personally could care less, but it usually results in ridiculous posts like that guy in the “rant for smaller guys” thread. He didn’t even have a point (other than to claim he was not a “fan” of mine)…and really, neither do you right here in this one.

Cool, you don’t like Cali-law. Some of the shit he writes may be ridiculous. However, I doubt I am alone in seeing that he can contribute where even many “regular members” can’t.
