Does feeling sleepy after I have a balanced carb/protein meal indicate that I have good or bad glucose tolerance?
“Balanced” = ?
Are you saying Protein grams = Carbohydrate grams?
What a loaded question.
Yoda response: Assuming all complex carbs, we are?

50 grams of carbs & 50 grams of high fiber complex carbs.

Federov91,
Back in Muscle Media 2000, T.C. did a test on himself using a lancet, glucose stick and glucometer. And I figured since T.C. did it so can I.
I used a lancet to prick my finger, put a little bit of blood on the glucose strip and used a glucometer that one of my aunts gave me. I did this 15 minutes before I ate breakfast and had a reading in the low 70’s. I then took it 15 to 30 minutes after I ate and got a reading in the high nineties. 15 minutes after that it was in the low 120’s. 15 to 30 minutes after that I crashed somewhere in the mid 80’s. At this point I felt really sleepy and kindof hungry, not to mention a little irratable.
I’ve done this with different food combos, different % pro/carb combos, and foods by themselves. For me if I feel sleepy after a certain meal I usually go with less % of carbs in that meal.
I may be right or wrong about this (if I’m wrong somebody please tell me so), if you eat to many carbs (glucose) more insulin is needed to clear the excess glycogen causing a sudden drop in sugar. Thus, the sleepy feeling you feel after certain % of carbs.
I’m not suggesting that you should do this experiment. If you feel sleepy after 50/50 meal. Make it a 60/40 Protein to carb meal or keep playing with it.
“Sancho”
I think it’s impossible to tell from how you “feel”. It’s just my opinion but I think if you want to really know for sure you have to get the tests done.
I don’t know, but when I get tired after eating I figure its a good time for a nap – especially on the weekend.
I’m serious. I figure if the body feels it needs sleep, I’m not going to get in the way, because presumably it is trying to build me some muscle.
Isn’t it normal to get sleepy when you fill your belly? This is well before enough time has passed for anything like a carb rebound described above…
