Yeah.
I’m a much smaller version of myself currently. Heres a pic from a couple weeks ago. Hovering between 185 and 190, competing at 175 in April.
Looking great. Feeling better though?
Technically, you are the precise version of yourself currently.
But looking pretty good, you could make a sandwich with those cuts.
health is great right now! I’ve done a lot over the past year to work on that. Took a step back from competing at a crazy high level and dropped back down a weight class as well. Working my way back up now. Got a big show in a few weeks.
Spent the whole 3 minutes necessary to figure out how to position my phone to record a set today. Here’s this afternoons new deadlift PR (425lbs):
A bit more rounding in my lower back than I thought there would be. Might explain why my glutes have been giving me grief lately. Might also be wise to improve that aspect of the lift.
Honestly there wasn’t that much rounding of your lower back. It looked like you started slightly more arched than neutral and it went to neutral. You can just practice starting more in a neutral position and then it’ll stay that way. It also looked really easy (regardless of how it actually felt). Very nice lift, dude.
Edit: To clarify, there was some rounding of the mid and upper back, but I’ve come to see that as not a bad thing.
Yeah, looked fine. Any back is going to round a tiny bit when at max weight. The whole idea of a max lift is that you are at the very edge of what your body can handle, no?
Debatable when gaining strength - avoiding that absolute max limit 1RM threshold except in rare circumstances (like 3rd attempts in PL meets, or in velvet’s case, strongman comps) is usually a good idea for longevity and accumulation of strength, but I’d agree that when you’re NEAR that you may see a bit of shakiness. I’m mostly in agreement - just semantics.
Thanks for the feedback fellas. Tend to be overly critical of myself so could just be a moment of that. I also watch back surgeries for a living, so there’s always an inner conflict haha.
Didn’t look bad to be a max. Main reason your back rounded so much was your hips shooting up so quick and losing tightness from your start position. I would try and keep your chest up a little more in training, but a max is a max. Good shit dude!
That looked good. Not even gonna egg you on and say there was at least another 20 there.
Nope. Not gonna.
I fluctuate ± 5lbs depending on what I ate. Don’t sweat it. It’s the overall trend that is important.
Thanks dude! I should record some submax sets sometime and see how my positioning differs. Appreciate the feedback.
@SkyzykS you’re probably right. My initial plan was 405 then jump based on how that moved, but then I decided to just go for the small PR and call it a day.
This is AWESOME, you look great, dude. One of the best transformations I’ve seen.
Just got in the last workout before the zombie apocalypse. Pull-ups and Dips in a park, before they told us parks are going to be closed too. I’ll have to buy one of those doorway pullup bars.
It was nice knowing you man.
Just know this- If I have to stick a knife in your head or otherwise de-brain you, it’s done out of respect, not like all of the fun ones.
And I hope if the tables are turned you’ll do the same.
Are corona infected corpses edible? Asking for a friend.
Jokes aside, hope everyone will keep posting as they are able.
