Favourite Comic Character

I always liked Captain Marvel (Shazam) because he seems so underrated and overlooked, and he was the only one who could neutralize Superman (whom Luthor pointed out was at the height of his invincibility and power) in the Kingdom Come graphic novel. I also remember a time when Superman had to obtain Marvel’s powers for whatever reason, and practically freaked out when he realized first-hand just how powerful the guy is. Such a shame DC keeps him under thumb.[/quote]

Agreed here. My fanboy meter went full tilt 10 years ago when DC hinted that Captain Marvel would be the X-factor (no pun intended) in “Kingdom Come”.

For a non-superhero comic, “Milk and Cheese” by Evan Dorkin. FUNNY!

the juggernaut bitch!

My Favorite.

My favorite comic character will always be Deadpool. For cartoons it’s a tie between Galvatron and Spider-Carnage. In video Games it’s Shoa Kahn.

Tough choices man…

Well, I grew up in todays world of comics.

For American comics, I gotta go with Quicksilver (Original Avengers, Brotherhood, ect). I loved his quick thinking, and I’m a big fan of speed. GUess this is why my #2 American hero is the Flash :D. With quicksilver though, I enjoyed his whole unsuredness as to which side he was a part of. He was Magneto’s son, but he drifted back and forth due to the sway of his family. Tha flahs is just plain cool. The cocky attitude is what got me hooked in the first place.

As for japanese manga, it’s a tough choice. I do like Kenshiro, but Fist of the North Star was a bit before my time. If any of you know Heero Yuhi (Gundam Wing), he’s definetly up there. His whole “the mission must be complete at all cost’s” attitude was awesome, and his inner-conflict over his actions was nicely done. Overall though, my favorites gotta be Kurosaki Ichigo, from the relativly new Bleach. The whole manga encompasses themes that I consider very important (desiciveness, self-confidence, humility). Ichigo is just a representation of all of that.

And I don’t know if he counts, but Dante from the Devil May Cry series (not 2) was, in my opinion, amazingly badass :P.

If, by “minor” you mean indestructible, then yes.

What happened to Power Man and Iron Fist? Come back here with those goalposts!

You must not have read much FF. There were a number of times when his power was the only thing that saved their asses.

Your opinion, and you’re entitled to it, but leave factual comparisons to me or harris; you just don’t have our lifetime accumulation of geek points.

The comedian Norm Macdonald had a great line about the Fantastic Four. You have the girl who can turn invisible, so she calls herself the Invisible Girl. The one guy can turn himself on fire, so he call himself the human torch, makes sense. The other guy became a big, hulking mass of rock, so he calls himself the Thing, OK. The last guy can stretch himself all over the place, so does he call himself RubberbandMan, or Stretch Guy? No, he decides, “I’m Mr. Fantastic!” What an ego on this guy!

Ben Grimm: I like the Thing, but really, pick a heavy from the Avengers and he could take it to Ben.

Mr.Fantastic: I can stretch…but to make up for my gay super power, i’ll be a genius and think my way out of everything…cause my super power sure won’t help me.

I agree with your remarks, but I thought to throw in my two cents.

Complaining about FF and thier individual powers is just a waste of time. FF is a team. They are not just a team, they are THE comic book team, just compare them to any other popular ‘team’ in comics. JL - not really a team, they are a group of heros who occasionally get together to battle big bads. X-Men - a group of (mostly) kids where membership seems to be a revolving door. Avengers - see JL. FF were a team/family before getting powers and they remain that way. Sure they occasionally have thier own spinoffs (the Thing has been great), but their primary function is together. Saying things like this guy can take Mr. Fantastic and these guys can take the Thing (which by the way, no way Cage and Iron Fist do any damage to him) doesn’t matter. Odds are, FF takes them down because they, better than anyone else in comics, know how to work together.

At least he did not call himself Mr. Fabulous.

I’d have to go with Spawn.

I think Wolverine is very bad ass, but I really got into the spawn comics a few years back and got hooked.

Another vote for Bucky Katt.

Superman and Preacher are my favorites.

Shang chi and Wolverine growing up. But oddly, nobody mentioned Conan (Marvel) or Kull. I figured these would have poped up by now.

Japanese manga: Guts (Gatts/Gattsu… damn translations) from Berserk. Berserk is the most badass shit to ever be published while still retaining a masterpiece of a storyline. Runners up Alita from Battle angel alita (Soon to be made into a movie by James Cameron) and L from Death Note.

American comics: I have always really liked the Incredible Hulk even though I never really got into comics.

Transpider…for all the spiderman fans!

I love this picture.

A-freakin-Men.

Guts is the biggest badass there ever was.
The way he evolved from being an arrogant young man, to a feared legend(The Black Swordsman), to a real leader, while still retaining what makes him a man, is incredible.

Just an example from his extremely arrogant days :

A(deformed, but good-hearted)old man who helped him obtain a certain amulet(a Beherit), while Guts didn’t want anything to do with him, is being executed in a market square to lure Guts into a trap.
Guts says “I’m not that dumb, it’s an ambush”. So he lets him be executed.

Berserk really can’t be summarised in words. Wikipedia does an ok job though, but still, it isn’t a “comic”, more of an epic tale, and definately not for everyone.

As for American comics, Spawn was awesome until no.100.
After that the story got too complicated for it’s own good, Spawn lost his actual persona, and I’m sorry, but I just don’t like Angel Medina’s drawings. At least not compared to Greg Capullo’s.
