Favorite Training Accomplishments?

How long did you work to OHP 100kg? I’m currently working towards a bodyweight push press (95kg.) Once I can push press it, I plan to work up to strict pressing it.

Every single time I return to the gym despite nagging/acute injuries and working around that, when life is giving lemons, etc. These are, to me, capital V victories. 2x BW deadlift was a small v victory.

I have yet to achieve any training accomplishments worth mentioning.

That’s an odd pairing to me as someone who pulled four plates about a year ago but has yet to put up two wheels on bench. Feels like if I ever manage to bench 315 I’ll be deadlifting 650-700…

The first time I ran 5/3/1 for Powerlifting caused some cool stuff to happen. I’d been running normal 5/3/1 for awhile with no resets and my deadlift TM was 430, which was my absolute max at the time. I’d never even thought to attempt more. Then came the 110% set with 475 and I thought “no way, but fuck it I’ll try it.” I did and it was a good, solid, struggling rep. Coulda cried when I locked it out.

Finally being able to do hard cardio without my inhaler was a huge one, and only happened last month.

Lastly, and the one I’m most proud of, is not having to miss a single set due to a back tweak in 2020.

It took me years though if I’d of had a power rack sooner I’d of got there much quicker.

Eh, I’m an awful bencher, despite everyone saying I should be a natural at it due to my alligator arms. It has always been a long road for me to increase it despite constantly beating the shit out of my triceps, lats and shoulders. Plus, I can never get amped up to lay down. Deadlift I can get really excited about.

Unless you’re a naturally good bencher, your deadlift will climb miles ahead.

I’d have to check my log, but I was in the 600 deadlift ballpark before I put up 3 plates on bench. I’m pretty sure I hit it before.

Long arms and lagging technique were my issues. Learning to tighten up my back was a big key to get me past three plates on bench.

Really? Damn. The most I ever pulled in a meet (and my best to date) was 550. Biggest bench in a meet (and also my best to date) was 350. I am falling behind…

Just checked some of my old vids, I benched 325 (touch and go) back when both my squat and dead PRs were 365.

I think I’ve also been blessed with alligator arms (and I skipped leg day my first couple years lifting).

I’m somewhere between @loganator and @twojarslave on this whole bench vs dead/squat, putting up a short-paused 300 three months ago when squat was at 450 and dead was at 495-ish. Alligator arms and long legs make things interesting. Squat and dead haven’t been truly tested in awhile so we’ll see what happens there.

Just got 120kgs for 20 reps on squats…hardly record breaking but I’m still really pleased with it, hopefully a 200kg squat is on the cards for sometime this year.

I consider the former more impressive than the latter, that’s pretty badass!

Well I could 120 for 20 but I’m still really far from 200 kgs

@GorillaMon damn a 100 kgs press is insane! I’m almost at bodyweight and I’ll be stoke as hell when I do it

Good thread idea. I like.

  1. When my working max/training max for bench and deadlift got to or passed 300 lbs and 600 lbs respectively. This is very recent

  2. My first 1543 lbs total (700 kilos), because I had spent too long my my tastes not quite getting there.

  3. Hitting a set of 11 pullups. First time in double figures, and I was around 250 lbs. Don’t know where it came from, and I’m actively trying to recreate it.

  4. Barbell rowing 352 lbs for a set of four with decent technique on a rare day my coach said, row heavy.

  5. Getting through my last meet and hitting a PR total despite a back injury a week out and having to travel to compete.

In chronological order:

Ran a marathon
Got skinny (81kg)
Ran a half marathon (actually, 29k) with a sub 5 minute pace
Benched 100kg
Did a 180kg squat (ok, not there yet, but I was damned close last week - I’ll have it within a month!)

Next targeted milestones after that:
Squat 140kg
Bench 125kg
Compete in a masters-class physique competition without being laughed off stage :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Damn! That’s elite level endurance!
So… what are you doing on a lifting forum :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

And I did it 2 months before my 40th birthday, nonetheless. :stuck_out_tongue:

But that’s just how I got lean enough to make it worth building muscle. Next few years are about getting big now that I’m lean.

Confuse me.

I’m assuming it’s a typo or reader error somewhere.

Impressive achievements nonetheless man.

Still remember benching two plates a side (at barely 150 lbs bw) and the intense pride I felt.

Everything else has been great, but for who I was back then, and what that meant to me,… yeah, I can still remember how I felt

Two wheels means big boy at most commercial gyms. It is now difficult for my ego to do anything less than 225 even if for lots of reps and sets.
