Favorite Stand Up Routines/Specials

Good stand up comedy is harder and harder to find every year. Comedy Central Presents used to be pretty good, but now has some of the lamest routines I’ve ever seen. And whenever I bring up the topic of stand up comedy, somebody brings up Dane Cook.

I’m sorry, but that’s guy’s a complete moron to me. I’ve never, truthfully, actually, even given a slight hint of laughing at anything he’s ever said. At the moment, Eddie Griffin’s “DysFUNKtional Family” is my favorite stand up.

I laughed at every bit and could relate to most of what he was talkin’ about.

Come on… Uncle Bucky. I’ve got a junky uncle and it’s just like that. Uncle Curtis is hilarious. Grandpa Billwas the boldest white man he ever knew. Awesome.

So go ahead and discuss what you like to watch to get a good laugh. Eddie Griffin, I’m sure everybody likes Dsave Chappelle, Dane Cook, George Carlin, Richard Pryor… GO ON!!
EDIT: I orginally meant this to be a list of stand up specials and routines, but like an idiot forgot to mention it.

I thought I could get away with it but relized that there’s a comedian thread already. So reserve this for stand up specials and routines…

Every single time this comes on TV I watch it. I can recite all four routines off the top of my head.

Bill Hicks kicked ass - in all honesty, god rest his funny ass soul.

Richard Prior too.

Also really liked Denis Leary. Eddie Murphey too in his earlier years.

A couple of people that are/were big in the UK - Eddie Izzard, Billy Connelly, Alan Davies (Utterly piss myself laughing sketch about cats).

I’ll have to check out the guys you mention AC - Never heard of them.

Fully agree with Bill Hicks.

Bob Saget, you know the Dad from full house, make sure the kiddies arnt in the room!!

Joe Rogan

mitch hedburg

Demetri Martin

George Carlin

You know I saw Saget’s routine on TV like 6 months back, and it was funny at first seein’ just how vulgar he was, but that’s it. I just don’t get it. He curses a lot and talks about butt sex with DJ or somethin’. Just not my thing. Guess I’m the same with Saget as I am Dane Cook. I just don’t get it.

+1. Poor mitch.

Kat Williams
Earthquake

And I’d pay good money to see Dane Cook and/or Carlos Mencia crucified.

Chris Rock. I can’t wait to see him at the Borgata in Atlantic City on 5/16…

I mentioned Bill Hicks in the other comedy thread, it’s always odd but refreshing in a way that he had such a big following in the UK, …in a UK poll, he was listed as #7 comedian of all time last year. Not bad for a guy from Georgia.

Eddie Izzard is great, and Billy Connolly too. He played the father in Boondock Saints…(Il Duce ftw), his stand up is pretty damn good. I also will add to the list…

Dylan Moran - I love his work and I have all the episodes of Black Books made.

Steve Coogan- I love Alan Partridge, and most of his work in movies.

Jim Gaffigan - first hear him plugging a show on a local radio station and then caught the DVD

Chris Rock - An oldie but a goodie

Stephen Lynch - comedian that sings, first caught him on Comedy Central but caught a recording of his show.

Daniel Tosh
Brian Regan
Zach Galifanakis (I’m almost positive I spelled that wrong)
Gabriel Iglesias
Ricky Gervais (Politics & Animals are good)
Louis C.K.
Dave Chapelle

His Comedy Central special where he does the Hot Pocket and the Catholic Church routines is awesome.

Brian Regan.

Definitely check out his DVD “Beyond the Pale”

The man is clearly a demi-god. Both his shows are must-haves.

Jim Gaffigan is great.

Bill Burr is funny, but there’s not much of his stuff out there.

Frank Caliendo has the best impressions.

Aries Spears; I was surprised at how good his special was.

Russell Peters is the shit. “I think I broke the deaf girl”

Jeff Dunham, even though his Achmed is blown out of proportion, the man is great at what he does, as well as surprisingly dirty.

Stephen Lynch is fantastic when you’re drunk.

Dunham is great to see live, does a lot of improv with the audience.
