So you consume very low carbs, high protein, moderate fat

Fats tend to get pretty high. Carbs are minimal. Its a carnivore style diet…but with Metabolic Drive.

I always got bad headaches and lost strength on very low carb diets. I carb cycle and eat most of my carbs and calories pre and post-workout.

Sorry to hear that man.

When I am with my family, I end up eating 1 meal with carbs a week. On my own, I go without them.

Don’t be. My diet works for me. Off days(3) are much lower carbs than training days (4). I also never bought into the extremely low fat diet BS. That’s the best way to tank your T levels.

Headaches suck man. I feel bad that you get them

No zero carb diet, no headaches. All good. Thanks, man !

You’re welcome dude. Thinking about it a little more, I realize what you’re describing is most likely an electrolyte imbalance. It’s common with low carb diets. I use supplemental electrolytes to combat that.

I added back Surge and potatoes. I think I’m likely craving the electrolytes more than the macronutrient

Holy cow, that makes a ton of sense. Potatoes specifically as well: they’re a solid source of potassium. Way more than bananas, which get top billing for some reason.

HOWEVER…

And, of course, there is always the option to do a loaded baked potato with bacon to really hedge your bets.

Exactly ! Within the past month, I’ve started using an intra-workout again. Nothing exotic, just EAAs mixed with Powerade Zero, and it has made a difference. I also like to use Himalayan pink salt (great for pumps !). Thanks for the information. I’ll research the Carnivore Diet. Hit the weights hard and have a great day !

Those scales are wildly inaccurate. You said you started at 187 lbs.

No one, let alone a 60 yr. old is gaining almost 9 lbs. a month and getting leaner naturally.

I’m sure you know what “Muscle Memory” is and that it’s infinitely easier to re-gain lost muscle from de-training and poor nutrition, than it is adding new muscle. Before I stopped training in 2022, I weighed a very “cut”, not “ripped” or “shredded”, 223. My best training weight was 231 several years ago. For 20 months, I didn’t lift, I ate like sh*t (if I ate at all), and drank way too much. Bad life situation. I 3as embarrassed how much my physical condition deteriorated and got to the point where I finally decided to do something about it. This is not my first rodeo. I cleaned up my diet and I always trained hard and smart. I was also blessed with better than average genetics for bodybuilding. I don’t like to brag. That’s why I didn’t attach any pics.

My macros and supplements were on my BIA scan. No SARMs, no AAS.

Please say you live in Colorado!

You’re obviously referring to “The Colorado Experiment”. No, I’m not the late Casey Viator (not related to him either, as far as I know). Not even close. I do however, use a lot of HD principles (training to failure, rest pause, forced reps, partials, negatives). I don’t think OTAY has ever heard of it. I just know what I’m doing. I’m retired (former LEO) and devoted 100% of my time and energy getting back into decent shape again.

Great job anyway!

What advice do you have for this guy?

High intensity / low volume… steak and eggs

Agreed with the addition of some onions, peppers, berries and oats or whole grains.

He’ll be back on top in no time.

grains are good for what exactly? Better question…what do they provide that proper fats can’t besides inflammation and other issues ?
